is that for real? bitching about (l)users by writing a massive bloated PDF and putting it on a website? Paging Steve Farally to the thread to learn what ironical really means.

I didn't think it was funny but it's an interesting look into the minds of people that create open source or even just free software, or any free service on the Internet. People sadly appear much more naturally pre-disposed to be dickwads online. We get quite a bit of that on AusGamers and various other support channels - for example, when people have problems with their (free) download from our service, their first instinct is to just go to all the trouble of filling out our contact form saying "omg your service sux why can't I download it doesn't work i hate u!!!!" - which is utterly useless and doesn't offer us any useful information that we could use to try and help the user fix their actual problem, which we'd be more than happy to do.

We get a bunch of great positive feedback though as well - occasionally someone even drops us a line just to say thanks, which is always nice - but they're few and far between.

Curious; does Ausgamers turn a profit?

Is your web stuff open source?

All of this reminds me of the angry tuckshop lady at school that wanted to be thanked for serving me. I don't mind you doing volunteer work for whatever reason you have as long as it's not because you are trying to get my praise. I don't have a f***ing choice where I buy my meat pie - I'm not allowed to go across the road to buy one from the nice man at the petrol station; it's truancy, so just give me the pie, and shut the f*** up you fat bitch.

Spot on - you shouldn't do volunteer work if you are after praise.

In my volunteer work though, I apply my own rules. If someone gets upset at me I just ignore them. If they keep coming back, I just say, "I'm a volunteer." It's only really happened to that level once, when some kids graffitied a wall and I replied-all to about 20 people saying "You should ask these kids, because their names are in it." - not meant to be an accusation. I ended up with an irate mother saying how unprofessional I was to accuse her child of vandalism.

"I'm a volunteer, not a professional. Please do not contact me about this matter again."

Anyway, the irony is that it did actually turn out to be her child...
