Topic: Which PSU do you think?

Hey guys,

Im wanting to buy a decent PSU tomorrow, I am tossing up between a

* "coolermaster real power pro 1000watt"

(review with details at http://hi-techreviews.com/reviews/cu...ly-review.html)

OR

* "Desktop 1000W Corsair HX-1000 ATX Modular Power Supply 140mm fan"

(review with details at http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=12842)

The main difference is that the coolermaster has like 6 x 12v rails with something like 18A on each, where as the corsair has two 500 watt transformers providing two rails of 12v with like 40A on each.

Me personally, I have no idea what this actually means in terms of ability to power a set up that i intend to one day triple SLi, so if someone smarter than me could shed some light on the issue, thatd be great!

If you think this is overkill for triple SLi GTX280's, and theres another (cheaper) PSU that will handle my s*** without undervolting or underpowering my stuff, perhaps you could direct me to it?

cheers in advance!

Depends what you are tri-sli'ing. The only psu that will do triple gtx 280's is the 1500W thermaltake

And I did try a 1300W tagan and a 1400W thermaltake first

what do you guys think of the PSU that comes with the CoolerMaster RC-T05? its 460w. Think it will be enough for a gaming machine?

Corsair.
The HX series of the corsair power supplies, receives awards and recommendations as one of the top power supplies all the time.

Also, I'd like to add that often times, tri-SLi is a waste of time. increasing the number of video cards gets diminishing returns with a sharp fall in extra fps between SLi and tri SLi. Save your money for the GTX 290.

Fixed on last release, and all trisli did was bring down max fps and raise min fps which is kind of what you want when your playing. I don't notice any diff in fps over 125.

Why are you recommending him psu's that won't work with what he wants to setup?

According to google GTX280 has a peak requirement of 20A which rules out the Coolermaster and seems a bit close for comfort on the Corsair for 3 cards.

I was thinking of getting a gtx280 ... but I hear my ThermalTake 750W Toughpower would be "borderline"

I am running 3xgtx280's and im telling you it won't work on anything less than a 1.5 :) the 1.4 booted to windows but would bomb out as soon as you tried to play anything.

I do have another 280 running in my media box which works fine on a 650W passive cooled tagan. It is also a quad core but only as one hdd.
