Thank f***ing god! This was a real pain in the ass in Europe. Getting driving directions anywhere is almost a waste of time cuz its often 2-3x as far as walking. Rest of the updates don't interest me but that's awesome. I assume this is coming to iPod Touch as well ?

Well Apple is renowned for wanting everything godamn perfect so they're probably figuring out the most bestest awesomest way of doing it as its not the easiest thing to implement in such a menuless, cursorless operating system UI.

And whats with Bluetooth still being hella-crippled? There's a number of things they could easily do without breaking any agreements, such as vCard exchange and stuff.

So wheres the proper GPS support with voice commands, not the google maps stuff...

so many of those pleasedixtheiphone.com issues I couldn't care less about, guess that's some of the compromises apple have had to make in delivering the product

video cam, bluetooth and turn by turn are the ones I want. Pity theyre a looong way off.

LINE IN IS THE REVERSE OF LINE OUT. YOU PUT A SOURCE OF AUDIO INTO YOUR HEADPHONE JACK AND THE IPOD/IPHONE CAN RECEIVE SOUND INSTEAD OF OUTPUTTING IT. ITS BASICALLY A MIC PORT. MOST SOUNDCARDS FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS HAVE HAD A LINE IN PORT.

Better source than a mic maybe. Kinda useless compared to all the useful s*** they intentionally leave out like VIDEO RECORDING and MORE THAN 2 BLUETOOTH USELESS PROFILES, LANDSCAPE EMAIL/SMS, TURN BY TURN, STATUS BAR ICONS ON LOCK SCREEN, MESSAGE TONES.

well for sms it pops over whatever you're doing anyway.. and if you dismise that the big red number should help

Its for the lock screen so you can glance at your status bar and see if you have mail, sms or anything else. You can get the exact feature via jailbreak and its quite useful.

Tell me something guys .. in the iPhone 2 software, how do delete the last entered number in the Calculator if you've made a mistake? Maybe I'm just insanely stupid (could be the case) but I can't seem to find the right button for it, have to cancel the whole calculation and start over.

nope, if you hit clear the current number is cleared. Twice will clear the calc.

You'll notice the operator you'd pressed before entering your second number will highlight so you can reenter the number.

Cheers. I'll put it down as the typical Apple approach: implement 95% but for some reason leave out some of the most basic and expected features. They make alright hardware but damn they are like drunk snails when it comes to software features.

Sweet. Being able to get podcasts via wifi would be wicked. It would be even better if we could use the f***ing iTunes store via 3G - I thought the telcos would have loved for people to be able to do that.

Overall, they had better fix the speed of the phone apps. I literally waited for about 5 seconds for SMS to load last night.
