Hello gurus....hope you can help!

i use my work laptop at home for general surfing. i currently use IE at work, because proxy is set for work network, and FF at home because i use my own wireless network.

i'd like to use FF for both but the only way i can seem to do this is to enable and disable "manual proxy" depending on where i am. i tried "auto detect" but that doesn't seem to work.

is there a way around this so that i can use FF at both without this extra step? yes i am very lazy!!!

There was an addon I used that put a little button on the toolbar to enable/disable the proxy. It was the best thing I could find for doing what you want.. zProxy or something

Grab & try FoxyProxy (Firefox Add-On) I guess.

QuickProxy was the add-on I used, it's very minimalist and simple.

Alternatively you could have fun making your own proxy.pac file, but then you did say you were very lazy...

I use an add-on called SwitchProxy because I use a proxy at home and my work doesn't.

c:\program files\mozilla\firefox\firefox.exe -p

Hit create and create a new profile, name it "work" and then hit start firefox. Enable your proxy settings in there then every time you run firefox just run it with the -p and choose whichever profile you want depending on whether you're at home or at work.

I had the same issue at uni, in the end I created a proxy.pac file. It was pretty easy.

while i think about it i have the same issue with windows messenger and itunes store.
when at home and trying to connect i get an error msg for these, i have FF open, so i go and disable the proxy in IE and it's all good.
how do i make these work with FF?

I switched to foxyproxy cuz I got sick of manually turning proxy servers on and off; its pretty handy

being the paranoid chap that I am my proxy is 100% all the time set to 127.0.0.1:3128

from there I have a script on startup which runs

# cat bin/proxy
#!/bin/sh
ssh -L 127.0.0.1:3128:10.1.1.1:3128 -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa brett@[server]

[server] runs a pretty basic non-caching squid site so even if I'm using free unencrypted wireless etc, everything is still at least encrypted via ssh until it hits my colo box
it allows allows me to hit the tubes from an Australian IP without fail

I used to use foxyproxy though, its nice and easy to use

update -
foxy proxy works and is easy to set up. thanks all.

one thing though
is there a way to nominate proxy or no proxy before you open FF?
cause after i've been at work all day and open the browser when i get home nothing loads until i change the pref and refresh.
no major issue but just wondering if i'm missing something?
