Topic: What TV shows are you watching?

I have been scouting around the net and found some new shows that might be worth a look:

Superjail - set in a prison, this surreal cartoon follows the exploits of the warden and his staff as they use and abuse the prisoners for their own ends. Highly amusing, extremely violent (as in probably one of the most violent non-anime animated shows I have seen - think the most violent bits of South Park and it is a step beyond that).

Snuffbox - Rich Fuller (The Mighty Boosh) and Matt Berry (Garth Merenghi's Dark Place). Jury still out on this one. I have watched one ep so far but it looks a bit all over the place. Rich Fuller was awesome in Boosh, but I think his over the top offensive American act might be a bit much when he has so much screen time. Still, I will give it another episode or two.

Nathan Barley - New to me but been out for a while. From the guys who brought you The Mighty Boosh. Cringe worth comedy in a similar vein to Peep Show. Worth a look if you like your TV dark and hard to watch/look away.

Venture Brothers - Again not new (up to s3 now) but worth a look if you like animation with a bit of adult humour. This series is based around the Hanna-Barbera styled adventures of Dr Venture, an aging "mad scientist" type who is decidedly out of touch with his two sons, Hank and Dean: The Venture Brothers. Accompanied by their bad ass bodyguard (voiced by Patrick Warburton - The Tick, "Puddy" from Seinfeld, "Joe Swanson" from Family Guy etc) the heroes are incompetently stalked by their arch-nemesis, The Monarch and his deep voiced counterpart, Dr Girlfriend.

Saxondale - Yet to watch this one but by all accounts it is a reasonable show starring British Comedian Steven Coogan (recently seen in Tropic Thunder) as an ex-roadie who works as an exterminator.

Time Warp - This is a show dedicated to depicting all sorts of activities in super slow motion. I have seen this before posted on QGL (remember the people being punched in the face in slow-mo?) and now they have gone and made a show out of it. Not sure of the long term interest but might be good for a few eps.

Anyone else suggest any shows worth checking out, new or old?

Also my current top 10 would look like this:

1.Frisky Dingo
2.Peep Show
3.Family Guy
4.Mr Show
5.The Mighty Boosh
6.Trailer Park Boys
7.The Sopranos
8.MXC
9.Never Mind the Buzzcocks
10.Flight of the Conchords

Worth a look:

12 OZ Mouse
Fonejacker
30 Rock
IT Crowd
Monster Quest
Monkey Dust
Robot Chicken

I watched the first episode of Breaking Bad the other night which seemed vaguely interesting - stars the dad from Malcolm in the Middle as a chemistry teacher struggling to make ends meet for his family who is just diagnosed with lung cancer. In order to try and get some cash for his family he hooks up with an old student that he discovers involved in the crystal meth trade and starts up a drug lab.

Need to give it a few more episodes on the weekend to decide if its worth going on - the first one was OK but didn't really grab me hugely.

Speaking of Family Guy. The latest ep is f***ing awesome. It looked like alot of thought went into it and the music score to it was extremely f***ing cool.

Anyway...

Family Guy
Terminator
Dexter
Boston Legal
Ugly Betty
The Office US
Heroes
South Park
Kitchen Nightmares
Chuck
Californication

In regards to the shows Incredible Vegetable mentioned...

Snuffbox - haven't seen much of it, but I do like Matt Berry's work. Rich Fuller gets old very quickly, but is well suited to Boosh. These guys actually came out as the MC's at Sarah Silverman's stand up gig in London on Sunday night (awful performance).

Nathan Barley - very funny, but only one series. There was talk of a second, but not really sure what happened with it. Some real classic cringe scenes.

Saxondale - again, very funny. If you like this, try to track down the two series of I'm Alan Partridge, which he did before Saxondale.

Apart from that, haven't seen too many newer shows just yet. I've heard good things about Mad Men, but am yet to check it out.

Top 3

#1 Dexter
#2 Fringe
#3 Life

All 3 have a brilliant quirky main character that make the show rate a lever above the rest IMO.

Rest of the list in no particular order:
American Dad
Family Guy
Prison Break
Heroes
The Office
Chuck
Entourage
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
Californication
My Name Is Earl
The Big Bang Theory
Everybody Hates Chris

Was watching :
Weeds
Burn Notice

But the seasons have ended or not airing atm.

My Own Worst Enemy looks like it could have some potential. So does terminator, but seems to be spinning its wheels a bit.

Heroes is s***. As is knightrider (its worse). True blood is incredibly stupid, but watchable. Entourage should have ended two seasons ago when it was good.

Damn, I forgot to mention Fringe. Such an awesome show!

And yeah, Entourage is starting to wear a bit thin but I keep watching hoping it will pick up. Heroes is a bit hit and miss too although the latest ep was actually quite good. Suresh cocooning his victims is very cool though so it'll be nice to see what the f*** he turns into. LOL.

Knight Rider is great eye candy (womens). So if you hate on it, you are gay. :)

Ok, so it's pure cheese, but admit you don't miss the classic Glen A Larson shows of the 80s. This one makes no attempt to differ from that formula...save for closing to ad breaks with a freeze frame.

Heroes is s***, though. If it doesn't improve soon, I'm f***ing it off my DVR. It just went bats*** stupid.

just watched the first series of 30 Rock and it was excellent;

it won a stack of emmy's so decided that was as good a reason as any to watch the show (also ive got a half chubby for tina fey)

DEFINATELY WORTH WATCHING, starting on series 2 now

Oh I forgot The Shield, I can't believe they only make it in regular 4:3 :(

Terminator is a bit meh atm, there has been far too many filler eps so far this season with useless s*** and no real major storyline progression.

Heroes is flailing... but I did like the Sylar twist.

Prison Break was another of my favs in first season, started off thinking wow this is going to bomb this season but its starting to get interesting now Gretchen is out for blood.

I dont quite understand why people like american dad so much, Its kinda funny sometimes, but no where near southpark funny. Its like its a copy of a show that was a copy of a show.

Family guy is ok, but only becuase of brian and stewy. The Dad is just not funny and alot of the shows are based around him.

The southpark episode about the writers of family guy was gold.

I have nearly finished Mad Men s1. It is very good BUT it is a drama, so like sopranos without the murders but colourful dialogue instead of grunting and swearing

I have paused sons of anarchy until the season completes, was liking it though.

The only thing I like not already mentioned is The Amazing Race. There's some real f***ing stupid people on it this year, it's been fun.

The only show I watch is, dare I admit it, Two and a Half Men. :(. Kids love it even though all the sex gags go straight over their innocent heads.

Men men men men many men men men. But c'mon, who doesn't want to be Charlie Harper? Benz in the driveway of your Malibu Beach House, drink piss all day, mad loot and plenty of womanz. Ahhh dreams.

I really don't watch any TV, cause it's mostly crap*. Once I set up our HDD recorder again I will be able to peep the shows that are on at unfavourable times.

* I only have FTA and CBF D/L'ing and watch TV on the puter.

Like all genuine HBO dramas, it's ploddy to start out with but it definitely gets better and you'll be hooked.

But if you don't like vampires, blood, and tits galore, you won't like this.

Frankly, I am surprised at the number of people who cite Two and a Half Men as one of their favourite shows. I had previously written this off as another lame sit-com after having been subjected to an episode on a plane trip back from Sydney.
I tried to watch it again the other night just to see what all the fuss is about but couldn't get past the horrible canned laughter and switched off after approximately 2 minutes.
Am I missing something?
I get that some people like that type of show eg. King of Queens, Full House, Reba and god knows what other sugary American sitcoms you care to mention. For my money there's a lot better TV out there.
Different strokes for different folks.

Also, American Dad is good but I wouldn't say it's better than Family Guy. Maybe I haven't watched enough of it to comment, but Family Guy to me is the original and best. From the episodes I have seen, American Dad is a (well made) variation on a theme i.e. Over the top Dad, awkward son, misunderstood daughter, long suffering yet sexy wife, and a talking pet. Oh, and odd family member (in AD it's an alien, in FG it's a talking British accented baby with personality disorder) who has a separate agenda but bound to the family unit due to being reliant on them).
If anything, from what I have seen FG is the more inventive and pop culture savvy of the two, but I must admit I am not an avid AD watcher.

No ones mentioned how i met your mother. I approached it with much scepticism as well. But after a few recommendations i had to give it ago. I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it has canned laughter, its still a great watch. I compared it to the early season of scrubs; not as good but still!

Breaking Bad is bloody awesome, takes a couple of episodes to get into it, but boy does it pick up. Pity about the writer's strike killing the first season off prematurely (only 7 eps).

Otherwise the Shield is it. Only a handful of eps left now :( I wonder if they'll go all Blake's Seven on us?

Wow, how could I forget Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Working my way through 6 seasons.

But seriously, The Sopranos. I didn't really emphasize the awesomeness of this show in my earlier post, and I know that it has come and gone long ago now and I kinda missed the boat when it was actually doing it's first run, but OMFG it's great.

I don't usually go for drama-type shows and tbh I had written this off as another "ooo it's edgy for the middle classes" Desperate Housewivesesque program but for once I was wrong. Usually shows like this end up being watered down and catering to the masses but The Sopranos really grabbed my attention and held on. It's violent and raw but it also has great three dimensional characters and real dramatic tension. Even though the characters are fatally flawed and for the most part despicable, the writing is so good that you feel drawn into their world, and you are hard-pressed not to care about characters who exhibit what is essentially a criminal mentality: kill or be killed.

If you haven't seen it do yourself a favour. Sadly I am up to the second half of the final season and so the end is in sight (please don't spoil it by giving away the ending here) but wow what a ride!

United States of Tara is a new show that is very good. Episodes are very short. It's written by the woman that wrote Juno and exec produced by Spielberg.

The Tudors S1 & S2 were excellent. Highly recommend. It probably helps that I knew nothing about King Henry.

Damages Season 1 was top notch excellent, haven't started S2.

At the moment I'm only really watching:

CSI New York
The Big Bang Theory
House
Battlestar Galactica
Scrubs
NCIS
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
24
Gossip Girl
The Office

I think that's about it. Cut down significantly from previous years.

I don't watch much. I don't have an antenna plugged into my TV (consoles and DVD payer only) and I spent the last 6 months living in a shared living room environment, where you had to fight at least 5 others to watch what you wanted, so I would probbaly like more shows if I actualy saw them.

The three I watch are:
Chuck
Ugly Betty
Heroes

Chuck is my clear fave at the moment. They showed season 1 on New Zealand tv but Aus didn't get it, that sucks. Also Aliens in America was another I saw in NZ and liked, not sure if they showed it here or not. New Zealand get better free tv that us supprisingly.
