Topic: Max Payne Box Office Hit Despite Reviews

I've yet to see it (which is weird because I'm self-confessed Wahlberg fan), but apparently reviewers (who have slammed the movie) have no control over the Box Office (or perhaps it's just the combined power of the Max Payne license and Marky Mark), as Reuters have reported the movie adaptation of the classic film noire videogame has lead Box Office sales in the US with the movie cranking out USD 18 million, despite the country's economic woes.
The dark, atmospheric film, which stars Mark Wahlberg as a cop in search of the men who killed his wife and child, outshone Oliver Stone's much-talked-about "W.," which debuted at No. 4 with a take of $10.6 million.
It could also be that Oliver Stone has just lost his touch (in my opinion the last good movie he had any involvement with was Natural Born Killers). Has anyone seen Max Payne yet? Thoughts?

champagne comedy. Anyway, I saw Max Payne and even Wahlberg couldn't save it, it is just a really bad movie. Seriously, there is like 10 minutes missing from the movie, it just skips and you sit there thinking "wtf just went down?" Not to mention the complete jumble that is the story...

but there's Wahlberg in slow motion a lot right? That's gotta be worth something...

Heh at all the comments of people saying it's s***. I definitely at /least/ read the forums before I go see a movie these days. Although I'm so confident something like this would suck I'd barely even bother. Has there ever been one good video game conversion movie?

I didn't think it was absolute s***, I've seen many movies that were much worse, but its extremely slow and very average at best. For a movie made from a game that was all about shooting people, it contains very little actual action. Also, its severely lacking in cool, hard-boiled monologues.

yeh it was a bad idea to begin with..

reason being that Max Payne is game that was inspired by 'over-the-top' Action Films like the Matrix and pretty much anything by John Woo.

So they were making an Action Movie based on a Computer Game that was based on Action Movies..

The magazine Game Informer gave this game a 0 out of 10, the lowest score a game has ever gotten[1]. A 2007 PC World article rated the game as number 8 on their list of the 10 worst games of all time.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaha is it coincidence that this movie is s***?

Saw it on Sunday, I nearly fell asleep towards the end. Last movie I fell asleep in was Goldeneye. On the plus side there was a teaser for Sin City 2 before the movie.

Can't believe Wahlberg actually has fans that aren't teenage girls, some things should only be confessed to using the anonimity of the internet.

Saw it Monday night and it was s***

I don't remember there being a BB character in the game, along with Jack Lupino being an ex marine.

Hell they didn't even get the colour of the f***ing drug right.

They removed alot of the characters as well (Vinnie Gogniti, Vladamir, The Twins and The crazy guy with the baseball bat)

Also he went into slow-mo about 3 times. If they kept to the original story line it would of been sweet but it's like every other Game to Movie transition, s***.
