We're sure that most of you have heard by now that one of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused.

Seriously, is there something I'm misunderstanding?
What could honestly be so offensive about there being TWO expressions from a religious text in a SONG played in the BACKGROUND of a GAME? Jesus. (hehe)
I'm not even sure who is meant to be offended by this, Christians or Muslims?

The story as I read it was that some Muslims politely and calmly notified Sony and/or the developers that these words were in some of the music in the game, and pointed out that this was considered offensive to Muslims as words from the Qur'an aren't supposed to be alongside music.

Sony, for whatever reason (be it cultural sensitivity or simply being worried about enraging militant psychopaths), decided to recall the game rather than risk, well, anything.

I think it's a bit of an epic pussy copout (especially given that Sony recently told the Church of England to get f***ed when they complained about using the Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man - BBC story.

Obviously there's a lot of commentary about this, most of it focusing on the fear of violent reprisal by the less peaceful elements of Muslim community. Says a lot about the state of the world, really.

kos, well done on being useless and not posting the link to the article.
Apparently it was a poster on the European PlayStation community message board who pointed out that there are Arabic passages from the Qur'an in the background music of an African-themed game level, with the lyrics translating to "Every soul shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on earth will perish." The grim tone of the words isn't the problem, though, but rather that some Muslims consider it offensive to recite the words of the Qur'an to musical accompaniment.

Pretty hilarious that they would use direct quotes from the Quran. Thought the game was very light hearted.

edit: it seems like a song they used contained the phrases and not game created music.

greazy, well done on being a grumpy old d******* who feels the need to put other people down to make yourself feel better.

As you can see from my original post, I didn't actually read any article, the only thing I read was a blog post on some playstation thing, and I pasted the entirety of what they said on the issue. Hence my lack of belief and lack of any further knowledge on the topic (as you may easily have been able to work out from all the questions).

Is there anything Muslims DON'T find offensive? words, christmas, america, music, australian flags... Religion makes people pretty retarded but that is a whole different story for another time. I can sort of understand why sony would wuss out and do this but why bother putting it in, in the first place? Don't tell me they didn't think a small group of people would find something to take offense to. People found something morally wrong with spore ffs.

If as trog says the people that pointed this out to Sony did so in a reasonable and respectful manner I really have no problem with Sony recalling the game. Personally i am always more receptive to peoples requests if they are decent and polite.

If on the other hand some f***er wants to make threats over something simple my only response is always ... go f*** yourself you'll get nothing from me. Thats one of the saddest things about most lunatic fringe dwellers they have little or no understanding of how to get what they want without being a pack of total d*******s.

This link, http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=262215 , has a little more info plus an archived shot of the original post on the playstation forums that started this pussy kowtowing to a special interest group.

Ah well, I suppose I could play Fable 2 now and wait till LittleBigPlanet gets re-released

Or apparently you can now read about it on news.com.au

I like the fact that the song licensed for the game was created and sung by a 'devout muslim' years ago...

These Muslims sects need to sort themselves out and stop blaming evrything on infidels. Get together and decide are drawings of Mohammed a crime or not? Shia's don't think so infact Iran unvieled a significant portrait of mohammed the other month (once the cartoon crisis had died down). Any music other than drums evil? Islamic musicians the world over don't think so, including the Muslim that two years ago wrote the track used in this game.

So, exactly who is offended by this, and what are they doing playing infidel computer games?
