I know this was discussed a while ago but don't want to revive old threads. Anyone running these adapters......do they work well? I am thinking of hooking my xbox360 over it and just curious for any problems.

I had 3 adaptors until one started smoking and stopped working. Apart from that they do the job but can be slow depending how old your house/wiring is.

My father in law runs these at his place and doesn't get great results. Connects at around 800kbits which I suppose comes down to cabling more than anything.

Why not look into one of the ethernet to wireless adapters instead? I moved house and had to hook up my old WGE111 again and it runs a dream connected to my Xbox. Admittedly I don't use it (Xbox) for gaming but it's more than able to stream media across without any problems.

depending on your house they can be far better or far worse than wireless. For example, a big solid brick house with excellent wiring is going to probably favour EoP, however an older open plan house with paper thin walls and weird old wiring will favour 802.11a/b/g. Personally, i'd only go with EoP when wireless just cannot work well, even with big boost/gain/antennas etc, mainly due to the high-ish price of EoP adapters.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not paying for them so price doesn't worry me. Its purely because I am trying to stream to the xbox. The router is up stairs at front of the house, xbox is downstairs at rear of house. The house is about 3yrs old and is a 2 story rendered brick so hopefully the wiring should be good.

how much does it cost to set up 4 computers using this setup?

have you got a wireless network already? might be better off trying wireless first. I agree that you're much better off with wireless, unless it doesn't work well for you.

I previously used 2 of the "200mbit" ones (I've since moved and had ethernet installed in my walls)

My experience was I could get up to 20-30mbit transmission over decent distance; at "point blank" (same socket) it got to 50mbit per second.

For me it was noticably better real-world performance than wireless; in particular it didnt suffer from dropouts like my wireless did/does.

If cost is not a factor, I definately recommend it over wifi.

i have used the netcomm 85mbps models to run from one house to a shed ~ 130meters.
Speed was closer to around 1.5~ Mb/s, About the equiv of speed when my wireless in the house says a nice 54mbs connection. (which would not work reliably over the 130meters).

In the situation i had, running an ethernet was not an option, and wireless may work fine, or it may not, and required much more cost $$$.

the 200mbit models seem to me of a gimmick than the 85mbit ones.
For what it does and the price i paid for a pair <$120 , was still much cheaper than a properly paired wireless connection.

I used them as well, only got slightly better results than wireless. They where some netgear ones. The bit that annoyed me was that to sync properly it had to be early in the power chain or directly into the wall socket. Because the are wide its hard to plug things in next to them. I did also get a small performance boost from switching to thor boards and putting them on the isolated port. Still not as good as straight into the wall though. I also noticed that if you do daisy chain a bit that the more stuff turned on, on the downline the worse the performance. Just run cable through the walls

I agree with Ross about the giant size of them being lame. Its unfortunate you cant rent them from somewhere, because it seems like the results really do vary widely depending on each house's wiring etc

Just wondering how many outlets did you get installed and was your house a one-story or two-story house?

for the wiring? got a cat 6 outlet in every room, 2 story house. Used the guys at electronicliving.com.au based in Briz, was very reasonably priced but they where doing a lot of other jobs for me as well. I imagine they would be pretty pricey to get in and do just that. Any electrician can do it and if you take a look over your home and contents insurance you might be able to do it yourself..

14 outlets all together and god knows how many metres of cable, if I had to guess about 200 - 300m (I don't have 14 rooms, 6 where for the media rack) came to about 3.5k i think from memory and that included some power points an exhaust fan and some other repair jobs.

If any body wants to borrow/buy my adaptors for free/$20 they are welcome to them.

Hi Mass. I got a couple of these for the exact same thing. The performance was wrose than my wifi. I ended up getting my money back and runnning network cable around my house to do it right. No I can stream to my hearts content :)

My guy charged a flat $120 per connection (ie, 2 end points) regardless of cable length , which I just have running from PC room to TV room.

that's pretty dang good nats, so its better to get electricians than av guys :)

Wow I thought it would be cheaper. I got quoted $110 + GST for one point.
