cab drivers have to get a new UBD every year. This is so they can keep up with new streets, developments etc.
One cabbie used to refuse. He would only get a new refidex when the pages started falling out (about once every 3 years) or when he needed to go to a street that wasn't in his old refidex. He said the pages would always fall out first, and he's never found a street that wasn't in his 3 year old refidex. He said the only other things you will notice are major intersection deveopments and if you need a refidex for them, you shouldn't be driving. |

very true scuzzy.
Headlights are due to driver's laziness. Some of the better cabbies will keep spares in the glovebox and change them when necessary. Brake pads? Well the squealing noise you hear is due to the fact that they use the cheapest possible brake pads (i remember getting a skid (half a pallet) of pads that were $9 a set lol) and we'd never machine the discs, they used to be as flat as the surf at kirra. You'd get a crapload of brake dust hanging around which would just make the problem worse. |
