As those keeping an eye on our E3 Videos Page will have already noticed, Bethesda have released their E3 2008 trailer for the hotly anticipated Fallout 3. The 3 minute clip shows off more of the Fallout staple retro style and the first real in-game action. Also, AusGamers intrepid E3 2008 reporters trog and steve capped the actual Fallout 3 gameplay demonstration from today's Xbox Media Briefing which you can now see for yourself right here in our video library. |

I'm fairly disappointed after watching the trailers. Looks like they haven't fired the animators they had on Oblivion, it looks clunky as f***.

I hope it fails hard because bethesda sucks dick now.
When the dude who got a speak peak at it said it was pretty much like oblivion but with guns (like it was a good thing or something, lol) i pretty much gave up on it. |

I'm of two minds. On one hand, I'm all for an oblivion style game with a sci-fi setting. On the other hand, it doesn't really feel very Falloutish. Perhaps they would have been better off calling it Fallout: Something rather than naming it as a direct sequel.

I'm with Dan on this one. Looks good, and will probably play well. But it's lacking that Fallout feel I got when I played Fallout 1 & 2. It's not a true sequal unless it invovles Vault 13 in some way. :P |

Appeasing whiny fanboys is what Nintendo does, leave Bethesda to make games the way they like imo.

I dunno, it felt very Fallout to me, I thought it looked great. And I loved the little tv bit at the start, especially bits like the "Not an actual atomic blast" caption and my skype message at work is now "Dating experiences in Vault may vary".

I guess I'm still looking forward to it, but definitely not as much as I was before. It still looked like Fallout, but Bethesda always seem to make their games look so... gamey... if that makes sense. The screenshots look great, and it looks pretty good when cut together in a pretty trailer, but when I saw the actual gameplay footage today, I was really let down. Bethesda just have no clue how to make a game look nice in motion.
I haven't really got anything negative to say on the gameplay, apart from the first-person shooting looking kind of clumsy, because they didn't show much. But it doesn't seem like they've really learned anything from Oblivion in terms of how a game should look in motion. If anyone here thinks Oblivion had good animation/physics/AI behaviour, you're delusional. |

^^ How's that, you mean poorly? why should they listen to fanboys? they have some rosey eyed idea of what the original game was like and get upset whenever they deviate slightly from that rosey image with the sequels/remakes. like you just did. |

What? I haven't said anything about the gameplay, all I've mentioned is the animation and movement. You don't have to be a bloody fanboy to want a game to look nice.

Did you watch the gameplay video, or just the trailer I watched both. I'll admit, the animations and physics do have that same floaty feel to them as oblivion, though, I still think they're far far better than oblivion. I guess it doesn't bother me as much, It was never a deal breaker for me in Oblivion either. I mean, I recognise it had some horrible animations in it, but it wasn't enough to really affect my enjoyment of the game. Same as Mass Effect, the combat in that was at times pretty s***, and some of the animations seemed a bit stiff at times, but it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the game at all, so I'm sure I'll still love Fallout 3 :) When I heard mini nuclear bomb catapault, I was sold. |

Yeah, I'm sure I'll still enjoy the game, but being an animator, that stuff will more than likely be a bit more distracting to me. Though I'm glad it's not just me, pretty much everyone I've talked to today have said the exact same things I have.

Fallout fanboys are rabid, they bite. I'm one of them. I'm scared this Fallout will have scaling enemies like Oblivion, that really s*** me off and ultimately killed Oblivion for me. What's the point of getting mega tough when simple rats scale with you. Also, what is the point of being weak as when there is barley anyone tougher then you.. So in that system, leveling seems like a futile pointless exercise. When I saw Fallout 3: Van Buren I cried a little knowing what fallout 3 could have been. It better be good, now to cry as I watch the Gameplay footage. |

If the game is like oblivion though, someone will make a mod which fixes the scaling.. although that doesn't really fix it as for most people they'll have already finished it by the time it comes out.

One of the things that made the old fallout's good was that it was very much a sit back and play game. You could do stuff and think about it, where as this game seems more like you twitching your way through, no where near as laid back.
It's not an RPG if you have to strafe. |

Yes it was only a trailer, however there was running, gunning and strafing. Twitch gameplay in a game that was never about twitch, that is what he is saying doesn't feel like Fallout, if you don't get it now you won't understand.

i just watched it and i think it looks petty sweet, i played both fallouts. It still feels like fallout. I suspect the ultra fanboys dont think it feels like fallout because its not top down 2d graphics... basically what you guys want is fallout 2.. so why don't you just go play that? enjoy it for what it is.

Twitch gameplay in a game that was never about twitch It didn't look like twitch gameplay to me at all, it looked like a lot of pausing the action, choosing your target and your location on the target you want to shoot, then watching as your action plays out. Not really twitched based FPS gameplay, much more in the style of how Fallout combat worked imo. |

If you can stand the first 10mins and start getting into the story, you won't even notice the graphics anymore. Really that's what bothers the fanboys, its the fact all this fiddly fps s*** trying to stop & start real time combat, having an over the shoulder view and graphic is more important then gameplay or story. Being a fps, people will get sick of the tactical side of fallout and just turn it into a CS facerapefest. GG. |

twitch based gameplay haha.
unless you have some sort of motor neuron disease (like a genetic based one) i think you'll be able to play the game. the only thing i don't understand is why fanboys who have been waiting 10 years for another fallout game are suddenly hanging s*** on one they've only seen 90 seconds of. why? because in 10 years the game suddenly discovered a 3rd dimension. cry more fags. |

Forum hero to the rescue! nF people are not complaining that it's 3D, they're complaining that it's FPS-RPG bulls***.
I'm not a fanboy, I suck at RPG's and haven't ever finished an RPG in my life, yet I still think that going FPS is the wrong idea. Maybe the reason that it's getting a lot of s*** for being FPS is because it's a fallout game? I think I agree with Dan when he said they shouldn't have made it a direct sequel. We have too many FPS RPG's anyway. |

I don't like the idea of scaling enemies someone earlier in the thread mentioned? The whole slog of getting powerarmour in the originals was made so sweet when you could then single-handly take on armies using powder weapons. |

Fallout 1/2 could almost be played entirely by the mouse, very laid back, even the combat. That was part of Fallout's charm, this Fallout requires a more active approach (the twitch aspect) and that, I believe, is what people are fearing. |

I don't recall anyone mentioning this yet, but the turn based side of things is more like bullet-time in other games whereby you earn APs as you go along and can shose to use them during combat, but it's not ALL turn-based.
I'd personally prefer the 3/4 isometric look of the fallout 3 someone linked from wikipedia, because as mentioned it was a more laid back enjoyable way to play, but I'll still play this new one through (assuming it's better than STALKER). And I agree that if they do the scaling enemies it will be gay, I too found great joy in finally geting power-armour and being able to obliterate a force of well armed raiders using only the Pancor Jackhamer and Powered-gauntlets. |

nF you clearly have no interest in this game or the franchise as a whole so why keep trolling?
There's still plenty of difficulty in the game, it just means that at lvl15 you're not gonna get pwnt by rats or gecko's. There's still gonna be mini-cannon totting super-mutants but it also means that you have NO chance against them at level 1, but as you progress you'll see positive use for your levels/exp. |

nF you clearly have no interest in this game or the franchise as a whole so why keep trolling? Clearly you haven't read the thread because I'm the one defending the game from fanboys who are attacking it with stupid fanboy comments. Fanboys like yourself are having a teary because its an fps-rpg. Now i don't see how making the player MORE involved in the gameplay than just clicking once can some how take away from the atmosphere of the game. Surely being more involved would add to the immersion. The only reason the original game was isometric was because thats all you could do back then. You couldn't have 30 characters on screen in a 3d game back then. You couldn't have massive open environments in 3d back then. So what, 10 years later, technology has moved on. The game has moved on, yet the fanboys haven't. |
