I don't know what they're technical name is but I'm after a USB Flash Drive thingy with a high capacity and that I can put on my key ring...
Thanks. PS: I don't like the ones with lids that fall off and you lose (what a pathetic design).. |

Not sure how much you're looking to spend but if you're looking for high capacity, you can get 16Gb ones from MSY for $185.

Personally,
Don't carry it on a keyring unless you want it to break. Also At work they are the ones supplied to everyone and they have a massive failure rate. |

Officeworks had a deal on for a 4GB Lexar drive for $65. Unfortunately I went to get one at the local OW and they were sold out, so just got an imation 2GB uber micro tiny thing. $40 from Officeworks, probably much cheaper if you shop around - I just needed it in a hurry so didn't care to go bargain hunting.
The other option is to get a Sandisk UltraII+USB like I have - it's basically a SD card up to 2GB, which folds in half to reveal a USB adaptor, meaning you can use it in SD devices and then get the data straight off without needing a card reader. That comes with a keychain container for it. |

a laptop hdd enclosure goes for as little as $15, and lasts years longer my usb2 40gig hd has been going for ~3 years. in that time I've gone thru 5 usb thumbdrives that cost ~$50-200 bucks each last edited by koopz at 14:46:53 30/Aug/07 |

Worth mentioning that the Sony secure jump drive has an exploitable root kit on it. (may apply to other "secure" drives *shrug*).

I have a rundisk 2Gb flash drive and a lexar 512mb one (that one is ancient). No troubles with either of them so far after a few years.
16Gb flash drives? bloody hell soon we won't even need hard drives in our PC's, it'll all be solid state storage devices. |

Thanks for the recommendations guys, some really interesting options there hehe..
I ended up doing some extra research and settled for the 4GB Sandisk Titanium Cruzer for $89.. It's defintely one fine piece of hardware.. The casing is actually made from steel and all in all is everything I wanted... http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1167)-SanDisk_Cruzer_Titanium_USB_Flash_Drive.aspx http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/Image/Img/press/T22GB_front_open_angle.jpg |

bought a corsair voyager 16gb recently. it's a decent size and rubber so not worried about losing or damaging, but it does have a cap. mate just connected his cap with fishingwire but i haven't bothered.
16gb seems to be plenty of space, have a 4gb truecrypt volume on there for important stuff which leaves me enough space to carry other stuff when i dont want to cart my external 2.5" drive. |

bought a corsair voyager I highly recommend the Corsair Voyager GT model. Insanely fast compared to 99% of the other USB sticks on the market: 30MB/s read, 20MB/s write. They are quite resistant to abuse, just look up reviews where people have thrown them off buildings without any damage done. But as mentioned, the only downside is the cap thing, but you soon get over it as you're not likely to forget to put the cap on. The newer Corsair models are hardened even further. You can leave one on the stove in boiling water, take it out a few minutes later and it's fine. I bought from these guys: http://www.hboutlet.com.au/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=corsair+flash last edited by parabol at 17:55:55 31/Aug/07 |

You sure do know how to read don't you? not really Bobo :P I used to.. but real life has long since taught me that it's more about what's between the lines than what you see on the page in front of you it's all one great big grey area and stuff... or something... and things |

and yeah - once you've gone thru half a dozen usb sticks you'll begin to wonder why you buy this crap. like cheap dodgy cd/dvd media that decays, they're aimed at end users who don't know better :/
