Has anyone been to Kangaroo Point cliffs for Riverfire before?

I'm thinking of going around 11am with a bunch of friends and taking a picnic.

A) will we get a spot?
B) can you take an esky full of beer? I realise this is technically illegal but I also know cops turn a blind eye to people having beers with a picnic in a public park normally.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You would definitely get a spot at 11am, but you can't drink piss in public places. You're right about the cops and saying normally, but riverfire is barely a 'normal' event so it wouldn't surprise me if you were told not to.

Just watch it on TV or even better get a video recording of it from a past year so you can watch it at any time you want!

If you have alcohol, the cops with own you to the full extent of the law, they are worse then nazi's on riverfire... you've been warned, definetely not a good idea.

Last Riverfire I parkoured (not sure that's a word) on top of a 2 storey building next to the river, awesome night... pity the noobs on the ground packed in like sardines.

Last Riverfire I limpeted (not sure if that's a word) to a F-111 and toasted marshmallows on the afterburner as I flew over Brisbane. Pity the poor dolts down below on the building roofs.

I'm not stupid enough to drink to drink at riverfire, so no. Everytime a cop saw a drink, they were onto it, no questions asked.

Damn straight, I thought I was pretty damn clever sitting on the roof.

I just got home and realised 20 metres from my front door is a good vantage point. Looks like drinks and bbq in my unit, then move up the street for Riverfire. Thanks for the advice guys!

Ok, second photo could have done with a shorter exposure time, I had it set to 15 seconds :/

They should just save all the money and not have any fireworks and put it into more fueldumps. f*** they kick the s*** out of fireworks...

I've seen that happen a couple of times before, I remember a few years ago on the radio they said that was the backup (3rd plane) out there.... and why not go for given he's up there anyway!

I only tuned in on TV for a few minutes, but was the entire soundtrack basically Pink?

Jeff Buckley with the fireworks raining off the bridge FTW, all the other skyrockets FTL.

That CGI jetfighter on channel 7 was noob as.

Boat crash article here

Anyway, saw the fireworks from Newfarm park, good distance view, but we could barely hear the fireworks and the noise is half the fun. Still there were a number of groups there on the lawn.
Defiantly the best part was the dump 'n burn. I liked the way they spiraled around the city as they climbed. Needs fireworks from helicopters and para-gliders, and it would be leet.

I didn't notice any of the shaped fireworks they were boasting about.

went out on the folks boat for the first time this year, wasn't a half bad view but they wouldn't let us get too close to the bridge for obvious safety reasons
