EDIT: actual results are now available off sinet. Good luck everyone. I was quite happy with mine.

http://trog.qgl.org/up/hotgirlsgraph.jpg
Proportion calculated by: hot girls at uni/all girls at uni (for any given week)

Graph shows trend for classes where tutorials are OPTIONAL. I assume there would be a similar curve though where classes are compulsory, but with less range and a greater standard deviation.

I obviously left out holidays and revision week (cause they made the graph look dumb and as if you would care if there are hot chicks at uni during holidays unless YOU ARE AN ABSOULTE GEEK AND YOU ARE ALSO AT UNI DURING THE HOLIDAYS).

A number of hypotheses can be suggested from the curve:

1) Hot girls attend the first lecture to get the course handouts and see what the classes are going to be like and then attend tutorials in the second week to see if there is any point in going (eg hot guys like me who explain at least SOME hotties during mid semester).

2) Hot girls either already have boyfriends and don't bother going to uni because it gets in the way of their busy schedules of shagging, or have standards waaaay above the pale, nerdy, Industry-collar wearing typical uni boys, and therefore frequent other areas of gender mixing.

3) It becomes more difficult to focus on university work in the final weeks of university because there are more hot girls. This is especially true of exam period, "Where the f*** did all these hotties come from?" one might exclaim.

If you want to pick up, it's better to look your best in the first two weeks of uni. There is no point in trying in the last two weeks because by this stage the higher proportion is simply accounted for by exam preperation and not the hot girls' desire to check out the talent.

As a long term student I would have to agree with the above graph. They definitely came out of the woodwork over the last weeks of semester.

Good luck to you guys seeing the last exams through (the final exam block of your degree is absolute hell).

I remember one of our EE lecturers, Dr Sara (quoted at the last lecture of the subject) - "Hello and welcome to ELECxxxx, I think I am seeing many of you for the first time..."

Wrong. Lectures should have the same proportion as exam rooms for single subjects for your stupid comment to be valid.

i never used to go to about the first 6 weeks of a lecture

turn up to a few in the middle

but then show up at the end for exam information

this probably wasnt the best way to do uni

Pop princess would be one of the ones who lowers the proportion of hot girls when she attends.

which they do - you probably just aren't doing the right courses

I recall in COMS3200 were about 2/3’s of the students hadn’t been to any of the lectures. We were standing around going “holy f***, is soandso actually doing this subject?”. The best moment of that subject was when this guy came up to the group who had been there for the majority of the semester and said “I didn’t study at all, because it’s an open book exam”. Needless to say that the exam contained 90 questions to do in 3 hours and the vast majority of it was algorithm based.

which they do - you probably just aren't doing the right courses

If I had to pick between the distribution of students during normal classes and exams, I would have picked that students more densely packed during exams – at least during the end of semester exams.

During semester, every class is filled. During exams lecturers are, in general, required to book into central exam locations – such as Mayne Hall (UQ) – so students can be observed by unbiased test observers. As such, students are more concentrated – around the central exam areas – than they are during semester.

this probably wasnt the best way to do uni

How astute.

I entered uni as a mature age student and I've only recently graduated (mid-year).

If you're going to bump and update, Billy, you should at least post your results.

I got 7 7 6 6, but I'm fairly unimpressed with one of the sixes.

It was a course where there were restrictions on the exam mark for your final grade, IE. 80% to get a 7. Basically, from getting a six, I KNOW I got greater than 85% for my final percentage, but get restricted to a six. To make it even better, The only question I got wrong on the paper (there was only like 9 questions), we couldn't find a single person who got it right.

Bollocks, but I digress.

^yeh that used to be the story of my life. I'd put in a lot of effort on the assignments and stuff then bludge during exams and only just pass subjects. Now I want to get a good GPA so I'm actually putting a bit of effort in.
