so our new bub came into the world this week.. :) much to my surprise, women no longer spend more than one night at hospital after childbirth (unless there are issues to be monitored). Instead, Mum and bub are shuttled home asap - to be followed up soon after by one of many scheduled visits from a registered Qld Health Midwife, who follows thru with the usual blood test, re-weighing, basic physical. Said midwife jots down other aspects of both the parents and the child's home environment, as well as any factors that may be of concern. These are permanent logs/records. The Mrs and I were impressed by this level of service from Qld Health - we both agree that hospitals are boring, drab places that no-one should haveto spend more than an hour in, let alone a few days! The Mrs is happy to be home, and well... I'm happy not to be spending a fortune @ the Mater Mothers carpark.. er and having the Mrs home where she should be ;) still - it's an intersting issue of debate. Despite being from a family full of Govt workers, I seem to be the only family member comfortable with this level of service from the Govt.. so basically, the topic is: How do you feel about local/state/fed Govt reps coming into your home? |

Congrats man :)
Bummer on the no sex rule for seven weeks though :( A woman (has to be smart AN hot) has about 7 days to convince me I could be parental after coming home an meeting/catching up with my nephews (4)an neices (2) aged between 3 an 16 and have come home feeling a bit fuzzy about it all (despite my whole aversion to being a parent) |

There's no one in hell, heaven or earth going to tell me how to run MY house. You don't like the set of meat cleavers hanging above my stove? too bad woman they're staying. Don't like the cactus plants that line my walls? TOO BAD. Anyone comes into MY house and tells me to change stuff gets a firm boot up their ass. (what a donkey would be doing in my house I don't know) |

f***ING LOL at Jim
Also, my mum was a nurse at the RBH for many years and she said that the level of service there was excellent. She said that when you're giving birth, you don't care whether you have your own tv or not, or whether you have your own special little room. there's more important things to be worring about, like actually having the damn baby. |

Congrats koopz!
My sister just popped another one out and went full private this time and holy s*** what an awesome spending of money. She had her own private room with a Queen size bed, nice little TV and meals that were proper home cooked jobs. Roast lamb, potatoes & veges, lasagnes, salads, etc. It cost a few thousand though but if my missus was going to pop one out, I'd be definetly saving for the private treatment. On the topic of government employees coming into my house, that's no biggie .. but if they come in to take down notes of the environment and how I live then they can stay at the front door. I'd consider that a massive violation of privacy and my civil rights to have a permenant record of how my house looked one particular day because 9/10 a house that has just received a new born will look like a mess due to the excitement of the new baby and the time spent in hospital. |
