Taliban given three days to hand over bin Laden

KABUL, Afghanistan -- Pakistan is to give the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan three days to hand over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden or face U.S. military action.

The ultimatum comes as Pakistan makes eleventh-hour diplomatic efforts to prevent a military strike in the region.

It follows a late-night telephone conversation between U.S. President George W. Bush and his Pakistan counterpart Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

A Pakistan emissary will be going to Afghanistan within the next 24 hours to push for a peaceful solution to the confrontation.

And as far as bombing Afghanistan. 10 years of Soviet occupation, with the accompanying shelling and bombing, pretty much turned most of Afghanistan into a s***hole. What, are we going to bomb their rubble? And turn it into smaller rubble? They live in a f***ing s***hole, and our bombs aren't going to change that. 1 in 3 people can read. The per capital purchase power is $800, annually. Maybe we should kill their f***ing goat. That'll learn 'em.

The problem with Afghanistan IS the Taliban - they have done NOTHING FOR THE PEOPLE. They impose stupidly backward rules and regulations in a stupid effort to reach "pure" Islam or some crap. Indiscriminate bombing of Afghanistan won't do a thing - taking out the Taliban would. Install a democratic government and things might improve for them.
