ok so i've been playing NFS:MW and the last few times i've loaded it i've suffered massive tearing and artifacts so severe that the monitor looses sync and cuts in and out. I've tried re-installing the latest detinator drivers and directX but to no avail. strangely when i take a print screen it appears fine, changed monitor but to no avail. Am i looking at a farked card here or are there anymore software options i should look at before getting a new card?

all 2d stuff and movie playback works perfect, card is a Geforce4 Ti4200.

you can try the old soak in metho, then hair dry condenstation trick to see if it fixes it, but sounds like the gpu is dead time for you to upgrade.

Does it happen with all games or just graphically high end ones?

Cleans any s*** out of the card, ive done this to two older cards (Radeon 9000/TI4600) and fixed them its amazing how dust under the Ball Grid Array packages can effect electricty, make sure you use a hair dryer like 2-5 seconds after other wise will condensate. 8-)

EDIT: Make sure its no where near the bowl of metho :P

I've been getting the same problem in WoW. Usually alt-tabbing fixes the problem, but every now and then it just has a spaz and crashes the system. (I have a relatively new 6600gt). I've tried the latest forceware drivers and they seem to have allowed the alt-tab fix (older drivers even that didn't work) but have made no further improvement than that.

Tearing and artifacts are most commonly caused by an overheating video card. Check that the fan is still spinning fast on it and make sure it is all perfectly clean and that case has good ventilation.
