Just finished putting cpu and hdd into comp.
(2700+ and 200gb). Problem is, everything seems to work fine except as soon as I put a dvd in, or open an avi/mpg/whatever. The comp freezes and I get one "beep". I've tried stress prime 2004 and it doesn't fault or having any spastics. I've tried removing codecs etc and tried different players but all end with the same result o_O Tried different files and different dvd's with no luck. Has anybody encountered this before? [edit] Need For Speed Most Wanted works perfectly fine as well. It's ONLY avi's/dvd's etc. that cause my comp to hang.... |

What happens if a dvd/cd is inserted before Windows starts? Can you also boot off a cd? (Just trying to differentiate between hardware and software error)
You could give Knoppix a shot (burned on another PC) if you want to determine if it's merely a problem with your install of Windows. |

It was a software error, normal AVI/MPG's wouldn't play, streaming video/movie trailers off the net wouldn't either.
I don;'t know what it's problem was, but I reformatted again (it was a fresh XP + SP2 install after hardware change as it was) and it fixed itself. No idea why it did it, was strange, but hey format fixed it para :) guess it was windows install problem like yhou suggested.. |
