can it be done in normal windows xp or do you need to use a server OS to share a printer over the internet? Say like I have a printer here, can I somehow share it as http://myipgoeshere/printer/whatever and go to a friend's place or whatever and connect to it? Google just gives me either links to books or internet printing services.

You'll need a lot of paper to print out the internet.

Does your printer support Internet Printing Protocol(IPP)? If it doesn't, PrinterOn Focus might be worth using.

You can do it. If you are directly connected to the net, then know your IP and then share your printer and presto you can use it to print.

no, this printer doesn't have an ethernet card in it, anyone care to source me one? :)
I might take a look at that printeron thing, it wants me to become a free member, meaning spam spam spam and more spam in my inbox yay. Print to Public printers as well as printers listed as Exclusive for PrinterOn MembersI hope it doesn't automatically list my printer in this !list Obviously I'm not going to leave the thing wide open to the public You can do it. If you are directly connected to the net, then know your IP and then share your printer and presto you can use it to print. using ms file & print sharing over the internet? not quite sure but I think bpa are blocking those ports. You'll need a lot of paper to print out the internet. you lie man, the internet fits on floppy. |

Yeah I've done it before a long time ago over BPA. They shouldn't be blocking these ports. Try it.

this would mean port forwarding netbios ports i think, or some other ports, basically opening you up for all windows based shares, which is gonna cause all sorts of problems.
