Good news for Day of Defeat fans, you can now start pre-preparing for your Source experience by pre-load and pre-purchasing Day of Defeat: Source on Steam:
Day of Defeat: Source, the latest version of Valve's popular WWII online action game, is available now for pre-load and pre-purchase. Day of Defeat: Source leverages the Source engine's advanced features such as high-dynamic range lighting, advanced graphics, and realistic physics simulation.

Anyone may pre-load the game free of charge and decide to purchase at any time. Those who pre-purchase the game before it is release will save 10%. To pre-load, pre-purchase or just find out more, please visit http://www.steampowered.com.
This will no doubt start pre-raising more excitement about this anticipated remake.

Convert $USD (Useless Storm Deployment) to $AUD here
So if I bought the Gold or Silver edition I don't have to purchase DoD an can just download it?
So how do I tell which version my edition was seeing as I bought it like a year ago and don't have the box it came in anymore....

If you didn't buy it off Steam, then you didn't get the Gold or Silver edition, those were Steam packs.

ok i didn;'t buy any online gold edition or silver but i did buy the austrlian collectors edition, now would everybody who bought the collectors edition be able to play dod or did we all just get ass raped in an mexican prison and our compensation for the pain of it was a free t-shirt.

We all just get ass raped in an mexican prison and our compensation for the pain of it was a free t-shirt.

I bought the collectors edition to, i had a feeling that it wouldn't come with DOD:S as it wasn't listed on the box - but I thought for the price tag they would surely give it to those that bought the collectors edition.

ass raped?
you picked up the box. you read the box. you paid money for what it said you'd get. you got exactly what it said you would.

and somehow you are a victim?

take some responsibility for your own decisions.

or do i assume you're saying that you ass raped yourself in this mexican prison?

If you didn't buy it off Steam, then you didn't get the Gold or Silver edition, those were Steam packs.

That's weird cause when I open steam it says that I have already purchased BOTH the Silver & Gold packs. I bought a physical copy of HL2 from EB cause I didn't trust steam in anyway back then.

Meh, I guess I'll just contact Valve an see what they reckon

No, it just says you have already purchased HL2 and cannot purchase it again.

Well I have the ol ATI HL2 voucher and when there was the huge fuk up with the vid cards being released and the game code being stolen they made that 'all you can eat' offering to keep ATI voucher users happy. Seems that I automatically went to the Silver package and its telling me the CD key has been allocated to these packages already??

I dunno I guess I'll know if I have to pay anything on the 26th...but then again I am enjoying BF2 so much I might not bother for a while.

Saw these comments by Gabe over at VE about the HDR lighting in DOD.

DoD: Source will have full HDR support, which is very cool:

DoD: Source shows how the addition of HDR can actually affect game play, and not just because people tended to get killed while admiring the scenery! The auto-adjusting exposure can make running into a darkened room a big mistake, as a sniper lying in wait will already have adjusted his eyes to the darkness, and will see you quite clearly as a silhouette against the bright doorframe. Similarly, rushing out into the bright sunlight is not a good idea either. Gabe mentioned that future mods will be able to take advantage of HDR, with an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) full of examples and sample HDR textures already being prepared for release. Gabe mentioned that a game like Thief would be absolutely ideal for the HDR treatment, as skulking in shadows would take on a whole new meaning.

Which is all fine and dandy IF everyone playing has the feature turned on, my guess not many will have the hardware to run it with full HDR on anyways, except for me of course in about a month or so. muahahahaha

How long until CS:S undergoes this HDR 'cosmetic surgery' and becomes resold as a new product?

if u bought the physical collectors box from eb u will have dod source for free.

Guess again nubcake. In typical Valve style, those of us who were foolish enough to purchase the boxed collectors edition get royally boned with this release. We have to purchase it seperately.

That and EB at sunnybank had no clue about the multiple versions hl2 came out in... "um we only have the standard hl2 box... um..."
which is always helpful

There was only standard and collectors in shops anyway, all the other versions were packages you bought on Steam.

I like it.

A lot of people were complaining about poor framerates though. It is also quite a bit different from the old DoD in terms of feel (ie. you run way faster and the weapons have changed quite a bit) which I guess some people don't like.

Still, the gameplay still seems to be intact IMHO. Nothing like charging that last flag while an MG opens up above your head.

hah there will always be whinging geeks.

as far as i'm concerned its fkn fun.

fast, nice gfx, chunky weapons that sound tuff, good physics (no elastic barrels), no bunny hopping or supermen. saaalllll good.

scoggex, my box is pretty s*** and it still runs good with everything on high.
p4 2.4, 9800Pro, gig pc3500 ram.
upgrading soon anyway.

yeah plenty of servers already too.

ps. MG42 ownz!

how do you know if hdr is on or off o_O

ive got a 3ghz p4 + 9800pro + 1gb 3200 ram and it runs ok but this is 1024x768 everything on high, no AF filtering no AA ...

and the game seems a bit easy or no one has gotten used to the guns yet :( too easy to own

It becomes very bright when you step out of a dark area into daylight, then adjusts to normal brightness.

From what I've been hearing, DOD:S can get as bright as Doom3 gets dark.

Absolutely loving it. All of the weapons are fun and I feel happy to just change almost every death. Most of the sound effects are very good but I think the sounds for bullet fire passing near by could be a little meatier. They should just steal all the sounds from band of brothers.

It runs like ass on my current pc, p4 2.8, 1gb ram, 9800xt. Hopefully it runs sweet on my new rig that should be up and running tomorrow =)

It's fun, but i'm still getting used to thsi stupid recoil.

I have an athlonxp 3K+ 1gig of whatever was fast a year ago corsair DDR and an x800 pro (256MB) and its smoothe on 1280x1024 all high with 4xAA and full HDR. I dont understand how it works but it runs really well on this system and im amazed to hear often that people are getting nailed on the specs with machines similar to mine.

Sure glad I bought ATI... :)
