Anyone here ever have a second person that you pretended to be?

I know, like you ate all the cookies and when mum came in to yell at you, you would blame 'Bob' and then 'Bob' went and picked mum a flower from the garden to give to your mum.

Gonna talk in third person here so bare with me.

Kat used to have one (no longer need it) where she used to chat to people on line or write letters. It was her 'male side' and she called him Korban. Korban used to chat to Kat's boyfriend (at the time) as if Korban was Kat's best friend. Korban could chat about all the things Kat was too afraid too, or embarrased etc.

The rule was that anything that Korbs said, Kat couldn't be blamed for and Kat 'didn't know about'.

Kind of an escapism kind of thing.

Anyway, I have since been labeled as having MPD for using this form of escapism when I was young. Not just name calling either, they serious think that I have deep psycological issues and I am a danger to people... all because I pretended to be someone else for a year or so.....

I am still waiting for the white van to turn up......still nothing after several years.....

I didn't read all of that, but I'm sure most people do but don't realise it. I very much act differently around different people. When I play on stage, I put on a different persona too, and when I'm at work I act very differently.

PS. Don't know how you referred to it in this thread cause I didn't read in detail, but don't confuse schizophrenia with multiple-personality disorder.

Yeah, sorry I know they are different. I didn't know how to add MPD in to the sentence. Fixed it

Sometimes I make up an extra personality to get twice as much attention.

I think Einstein had a similar thing, he had a female persona just like you had a male one .... so I guess you're in good company.

Did your boyfriend ever wanna have a threesome with you and korban? That'd be pretty hot.

I compartmentalize everything. Work in 1 box, family in another, social .. well thats in a few different ones.

Sounds like misdiagnosis to me. If you were conciously using this "Korban" alias to achieve an ends, I really doubt the problem is that big. If you ever believed you were Korban, something is wrong.

Also, is it ok with Korban if I s*** in your starwars toilet?

you are a very wierd person kat, using an imaginative person to express your feelings etc... Maybe instead of using these 'different sides' to you, you could actually learn how to deal with things and say things as 'kat'...

sc00bs, did you read the bit where I said that this was several years ago and it only lasted for a maximum of one year?

That is f***ed up.. Having different attitudes and acting differently in situations eg work, home, social is fine and expected, eg you don't yell OMG CHUG CHUG CHUG when someone gets a coffee from the machine at work...

but doing something (eg acting totally out of character) and then justifying your actions with the premise that 'but he did it not me, i didn't have anything to do with it, he isn't me' is seriously f***ed up...

At the end of it all its not really your pretend person saying the stuff, but if you let yourself believe it is then that isn't helping the situation in the first place since you continue to believe its him saying it, you'll never get s*** off your chest

I would agree with you, however, this side of me was limited to irc and hand written letters and only spoke about how I was feeling and using it to be able to talk about the situation from an outside angle. It wasn't used to abuse anyone or harm anyone and then blame someone 'Korban'. It was purely for making it easier for me to express my emotions, nothing more. At the end of the day I was completely aware that I was Korban, but it is just like roll playing in the bed room. For the purpose of that exercise, you are X and when it is all over, it is all hush hush!

I dont really mind when it was or how long it lasted.. the fact that it happened at all is bad enough. That is seriously wierd....

i mean like acting different with different people is understandable (muck around with mates is different to the way to act around the misses), and acting different in different enviroments is alright(work - social etc), but being a completly different person is just f***ing wierd

haha yes on paper or via text, nothing more. I never roll played this person face to face or over the phone, pure text.

Tell me you have never pretended to be someone else on line?

Oh and for the record I know I am not insane, I have been checked before by more than one shrink :) Just seeing if my behaviour was unique or not.

OK guys I think it's time I admitted it.

I'm not really a unique user on this forum.

I'm actually Kat.

You'll see me posting some of the crazier and riske' things Kat is too afraid to post. Like pornography. Of herself.

I'll also be testing out probably non-funny jokes on you people so I can later try on Kat's friends.

The thing about me though is that sometimes I pretend to be someone else. Hunter. But don't tell Kat that. Kat doesn't know about Hunter. And Hunter doesn't know about Kat. They both know about me, but even though he's in my mind and I'm in her's, she doesn't know.

Thanks.

I have since been labeled as having MPD for using this form of escapism

The term Multipal Personalty Disorder has been dropped and replaced with 'Dissociative Identity Disorder' because people got the wrong idea what MPD really means.

you are a very wierd person kat, using an imaginative person to express your feelings etc... Maybe instead of using these 'different sides' to you, you could actually learn how to deal with things and say things as 'kat'...

Go read a theory or two on why it happens and what it is then perhaps you could start to understand.

Imagine your mind has little compartments, bits of personality are stored in these compartments. Something terrible happens (relative to what makes you feel terror) and that traumatic experiance gets locked up into these compartments and seperated from the rest of the mind, typically it takes some hardcore feelings to do this such as really beliving you are about to die.

Now what happens next varies on the person. What can happen is that these locked off parts can attempt to be proccessed, the brain naturally trying to logically (or illogically) figure out why this particular trauma happenend, It can do this is many ways. A common way is during sleep (possibly dreaming), at least I think it is common.
Another way is that it can sit dormant for quite some type untill it is 'triggerd'. What this means is that certain smells/sensations/sights/internal thoughts are associated with these traumatic events, when a person encounters stimuli that is linked back to the trauma (A certain pitch in voice, or the smell of dandylions, or the screetch of a car's locked breaks, etc) it sets off chain reaction if you will, that leads the mind into the locked compartments.

EDIT: Unless the trauma is compleatly delt with it will stay locked away in the nervous system untill it is delt with and reintergrated with the rest of the mind

What can happen now is that the mind can totally switch off the rest of the personality and switch on the detached, or dissasociated portion of the mind.
For some people this is a total switch and a completly differnt personality is showen, such as a 35 year old acting asif a 14 year old. Memories from each personality are not accesable by the other (at least not directly). The person can be walking down the street and 'black out' and 'wake' up several hours later with no idea of what had occured, or even what triggered them. EDIT: (As the sufferer deals with the trauma through phycological counciling they start to regain these memories and the power of the trigger is reduced, eventually to the point of being just another bad memory)

Another form can be when the trauma is triggerd and the mind gets a little seperated. The person can be aware of this, yet unable to alter their actions, asif someone else is at the command, I think this is called the dissociative state. Usually the memories of what happened whilst triggerd are accesible to the 'normal' state of mind.

Another way is there is a subtle or small switch, such as a slight change in voice, behaviour or even hand writing. Usually the sufferer is unaware of these changes as the events that trigger them can be seemingly unrelated.

Mental Disorders are just as bad for a person as physical disorders. Yet people sort of avoid the issues of Mental dsorders, seemingly thinking that if Joe Smith suffered from Disorder X for a small period of time (like a broken arm) then joe must be crazy for the rest of his life.

Of course it was. I am a baby of the tv generation.

Why did I stop? The relationship I was in ended. I could speak as Kat without bad things happening to me. I had no reason to hide things anymore.
