i know there has already been a thread about this but i thought this movie was that good it needed 2.

Saw this at southbank tonight (cheap tuesday :P) and i absolutly loved it, was one of the best movies i have ever seen. There was just something about it, like the video shots and editing and just the theme and whole feel to the movie was absoultely awesome.

*spoilers*
Some of the characters freaked the begeezes out of me, like that guy that didnt talk (Elijah Wood) he was so freaky with his glasses and that wierd smile. And the yellow pumpkin man, as i called him, was just plain wierd. Was very dramatic how bruce willis pounded his face into yellow moosh tho =)

what did everyone else think about this movie?

i personally think it was like kill bill, you either loved it or hated it. I loved kill bill and i love this movie =)

Brilliant movie, definitely one of my faves. You all owe it to yourselves to see this.

Edit: I also enjoyed Kill Bill 1 & 2

Naughty Kat.

the sequel curse begins

Hardly. There were a lot more than 3 stories in the original set of graphic novels afaik, so I assume they're just going to chose another 3 per movie for the next two movies. Really, as long as they keep the same people behind the scenes, theres no reason why the next two shouldn't rock just as hard as this one.

Actually, speaking of the graphic novels, does anyone know how many there were? I've never been big into comics, but since Batman Begins came out I've read a few of Frank Miller's Batman comics and I'm really digging his style. Thinking about maybe picking up some of the Sin City ones.

there are 7 sin city stories, you could almost count 9 really but there last 2 are abit short and not that popular.

From the imdb trivial page:
Robert Rodriguez originally envisioned Johnny Depp in the role of Jackie Boy. Due to prior commitments, Depp could not play the part.

...

Originally, the film was going to include the story featured in the "Sin City" maxi-series "To Hell And Back", with Johnny Depp in the lead role as Wallace. This was scrapped before production began but will most likely be filmed for a sequel as Rodriguez plans to film all of Miller's stories at some point.

It's funny, because straight after the movie I wondered why Depp wasn't in the movie.

Also, if you have illegals of this movie, DELETE THEM and see it at the movies. There's no excuse! It's definitely worth the money spent.

id recomend buying the comic's and reading them, they are word for word teh movie but it makes you appreciate the move so much more knowing how true to the comics they kept it.

you can get them from all good comic stores in a paperback novel size, they have about 3-4 stories in them each.

my only problem with the movie was that it used toooo much colour, but thats just me being picky.

Why was it awesome ?

I found it roughly about as good as Fantastic 4. ie. I won't be buying the DVD.

Batman begins what the f*** owned it. ie. I will be buying the DVD.

Yeah, I'd probably still rate Batman Begins above Sin City, but a large part of the reason for that would be Christian Bale.

I still thought Sin City was awesome, I love the film noir stylings of it, all the hard boiled monologue and the flawed, messed up protagonists. I guess a large part of whether you like it or not hinges on whether you really dig the visual style and the style of narrative used. I know personally I loved both, and as such, loved the movie. Also why I'm keen to get my hands on some of the graphic novels.

I enjoyed Sin City more than Batman. So much more action and it didn't have Katie Holmes' terrible flat character in it. Batman was awesome, but Sin City was awesomer.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll prolly just get paper versions, I already spend way too much time on my PC as it is. Reading is one of the few things that lets me get away from it :P

Sif be hatin' on Batman you fags, it was one of the best movies I've seen all year, along with Equilibrium (yes, I know it's old, but I only just saw it).

About to see The Island tomorrow for uni. I don't expect much from it, and Sin City is the next choice if we can't get into that one for whatever reason. Loved Sin City, awesome stuff.

I think you guys hyped it up a bit for me. I thought it was GOOD not GREAT.

Certainly not a film that you could recommend to everyone.

Good points:

1. The whole black and white comic book style of filming was really original.
2. The cast was excellent except maybe for Brittany Murphy, but maybe thats cause personally I think shes a bit overrated as an actress.
3. Jessica Alba dancing on a table. JESSICA ALBA DANCING ON A TABLE! This is worth the admission $ alone.
4. The story/s were sound. Some liberties were taken beacuse its based on a 'graphic novel.

Bad points:

1. Well the 'gore' factor is maybe a bit too high. Violence is fine but the gore meter was in the red zone.
2. The CGI 'backdrops' were very well done but few little things like some of the car sequences screamed CGI!

Overall 7.5/10

I agree with Khel

Batman Begins > Sin City

it was supposed to look like that

i agree, with pretty much everything else you said though

very striking style, but lost impact due to the moofie running too long

jessica was beyond hot

no issues with the violence (it was a comic book moofie after all)

great cast (except for michael madsen, who is usually excellent)

special props go out to Carla Gugino's boobs (she was the first wife in spin city and the main chick in son in law, woah!)

dunno if anyone mentioned it, but the scene tarrantino directed was the scene in the car with clive owen talking to dead jackieboy (where he has the gun barrel stuck in his head and he comes back to life)
interesting!

Why would excess gore and unfounded complaints about the look of the movie drop the rating 25% Slaps?

No problems with the gore/violence from me - it's hilariously over-the-top as it should be. And yes the CGed cars were meant to look like that..

Best movie I've seen in ages. Can't think of anything recent that tops it. I'd read some of the graphic novels previously, and it was spectactularly "converted". It was basically a moving comic.. brilliantly done.

I dont understand how people could think Sin City or Batman Begins were not incredibly awesome. They both rocked incredibly hard.

Although, I'm still saving my "Movie of the Year" award until I've seen Serenity.

got_bean you obviously cannot appreciate a good quality, original movie, perhaps you would feel more at home with spiderman or the hulk.

Anyway, Batman Begins was the best batman movie to date imho, although i did enjoy sin city more, Bruce Willis did an awesome Job, and so did all the other actors.
