WARNING A SPOILER IS ABOUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ IT HIT BACK!Well for those of youi have been living under a rock, the new hp the half blood price (or whatever) was leaked somewhere on the 13'th, and I was browsering www.stallman.net (there was also a big kick up about the right to read and stuff) anyways spoilers of the books abound he had a pic of page 600 with a large spoiler in the book underlined in red. Unfortunately the pic has been taken down, but the general info is still there.] I was anonymously informed that Snape kills Dumbledore around page 600 of this book. I am not a Harry Potter fan, and it is of little importance to me to learn about the plot of this book either today or next year. However, when governments spit on human rights, posting what they wish to suppress is one way humans can protest. |

Though that plot development seems unlikely i guess i will find out if its true or not in the next few days.
On second thoughts it would make sense in a few ways as to how they are going to get harry out from under the protection of such a powerfull wizard. |

However, when governments spit on human rights, posting what they wish to suppress is one way humans can protest. What the f*** does human rights and governments have to do with harry potter? They're protesting what g'ments are doing by doing something totally unrelated? posting info about harry potter on the net isn't screwing the g'ment over... it's screwing J K Rowling over. I'm sure g'ments around the world couldn't give a f*** about it, except for the fact it's probably breaking a copyright law... What kind of retarded hippy left wing homo are you? You want to protest g'ments restricting human rights by damaging someone completely unrelated? Makes sense doesn't it... |

obviously the dude is justifying what he is doing on an individual level, not on a social level. That is so f***ing irrelevant. My point still stands, that its a retarded way to protest against a g'ment as it's not hurting any g'ments anywhere, it's only hurting J K rowling. It doesn't matter if he's doing it on a personal, organisational or social level, it doesn't make sense. Go troll somewhere else. |

I was quite disappointed with Dumbledore dying! It was very sad and I kept waiting for him to come back to life. But I guess that's not possible as discussed in the previous book. I can't think how Harry will be able to get on without Dumbledore....

Good book, a little formulaic but a fun read nonetheless. If I have time I will write up my "Harry Potter: A Cheat, Thief and a Liar" rant which always comes to me when I read an HP book.

personally i felt that this book wasn't as good as the 5th one. i found it more difficult to relate to the characters in this one. and it seemed that harry interacted less with the rest of the school, as well as being almost "weeker" along with dumbledore ie harry : "don't worry sir, we will be ok" dumbledore : "why would i wory, im with you?"... WTF was that?
or maybe it was because i was stupid enough to read the spoilers before reading the book, kinda ruined the whole suspence thing... however the ending SUCKED ASS.. there was no conclusion! almost felt like the story wasn't finished. i mean, i understand rowling is going to finish the story in book 7, but it felt like they used the same tactic used by soap shows, almost a tacky cliff hanger. however over all IMHO, was a good book, definantly worth it, and i will be buying the 7th one. |

or maybe it was because i was stupid enough to read the spoilers before reading the book, kinda ruined the whole suspence thing...Nah, I totally agree; that's sort of how I described it to a few others. It felt less 'complete' than the last book, and not just becaus of the ending - I felt like she was trying to pack too much stuff in the book without fleshing it out as much. I did enjoy it still though, but I felt it could have either been condensed a little more or been a bit longer. |

Finished reading it around midnight last n ight - my wife stole our copy otherwise would have been finished sooner!
I enjoyed THBP and did pick who the character the book was named for about 300 pages in. The whole Potions thing gave it away... but that was the point. This book was really focused on Snape, is he the traitor, double agent we know him to be, or triple agent really working for Voldemort? This question was well set up to be answered in book seven. To my way of thinking though... Snape is not the traitor Harry believes him to be. He could have killed Harry many times before and didn't. He acted to save Draco from having to kill Dumbledore, potentially saving Draco from walking down the path of being Evil (as opposed to the snobbish prat he normally is). Unfortunately the Unbreakable Vow meant that he had to kill Dumbledore to do this and Dumbledore knew this and accepted the consequences - that he had to die. Also instead of killing Harry at the end he simply defended himself against his attacks before making his escape. Rowling has taken the original focus (Harry vs Voldemort @ Hogwarts) and slowly moved towards the Harry vs Voldemort @ wherever. Readers have heard enough about the school, detentions, lessons, Quidditch - staples of the previous books that were really glossed over in THBP. It was the quest to find what Draco Malfoy was doing, the motivations of Snape and the end of Dumbledore's mentoring role, a real coming of age for our hero as he casts aside his need for schooling and steps up to become a Wizard. Yes there are some relationship questions being answered - Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermoine, even Bill and Fleur (Neville and Luna?) - which is the best way of neatly tying up the loose ends. I The next (and probably last) book will have next to nothing about romantic pairings and be far more dark and serious as Harry, Ron and Hermoine go looking for RAB and the missing Horcruxes. Although not as in depth as the previous two books, which shows by only being 608 pages, it does seem a little abridged. But the important events are there and the arc is in place for the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort. So I'm looking forward to reading the final installment with much anticipation. POSSIBLE SPOILER The wife has suggested that RAB is Regulus Black, Sirius' brother, who was a Death Eater and reported killed in Order of the Phoenix. Instead he may have cheated death (possibly by using a Horcrux himself?) and then gone after Voldemort as revenge. |

yer i believe its regulus too. plus it would have had to have been a death eater that took the horcrux because it said 'to the Dark Lord'. only death eaters call him that.

defended himself against his attacks before making his escape.i thought that was because he said something like "no, thats for the dark lord to do" or something, i got the impression that voldimort had forbid the deatheaters from killing harry because he wanted to do it himself. i just clicked on this thread to see if any losers here actually read these gay kiddy books.i notice that the only people who say really negative things about the book are people who haven't read it yet. |

I’m surprised Rolling got that many pages into the book. There didn’t seem to be very many “events” in this book compared to all the others in the series. The bulk of the story seemed more concerned with the all the complicated love lives of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny.
Harry rarely left school during the entire year, and the story would have been pretty stale without a few attacks and Dumbledore lessons. |

The reason harry potter is going down hill, imo, is because rowling is focusing less and less on a singular story in each book, and more on the overall story. Sure the character development is good, and the overall story is also good, but the last 3 books seem to go off on random tangents that come from nowhere (and some end up going nowhere). Even look at the names of the books. The first 3 book names were based around a large part of the plot of the book, but the last 3 seem to be just fancy bits.

Yeah, just finished reading it, I thought it was good but it did feel a little bit anti-climactic. Almost like it was just filler that was being used to set in motion the events of the next book. It didn't seem to have any major storyline running through it, it was more just a "life in the year of Harry Potter" type of thing. If the main storyline was meant to be the Half Blood Prince reference, then that was kinda lame, because it really was superfluous to the whole story. You could probably take out all the references to the half blood prince and the potions book and not really affect the story at all.
Still good, still enjoyed it, but not the best. The last 100 pages or so were pretty awesome though, with getting the Horcrux and the Infiri and all that, then the fight at Hogwarts and stuff, but the 500 or so pages before that seemed to really waffle on rather pointlessly at times. I had avoided all the spoilers, so I had no idea what was going to happen at the end, thought Dumbledore was gonna pull out some badass magic that didn't need wands or something. The whole "killing a main character for dramatic effect" thing is getting kinda old though. In Goblet of Fire they kill a relatively minor character for dramatic effect, then they have to one up that in Order of the Phoenix by killing a more major character so they knock off Sirius, now in this one they've gone and killed Dumbledore. Can that really be topped? I mean, is Voldemort's death is pretty much expected in the next book, so I can't see it having anywhere near the impact. Does that mean we're going to see Ron and/or Hermione die for the shock factor in the next book? Also, one thing that bugged me, is for the first half the book Dumbledore wont explain to Harry how he f***ed up his hand, saying that its this big epic story and he wants to do it justice, then when he explains it he gives some short, casual explanation like "Oh yeah, the ring was enchanted, and it hurt me, and Snape saved me, the end". Talk about anti-climax. |

I was hoping that we would see some history of Dumbledore growing up and how he became so powerful. Maybe Harry will research some of that in the next book and find out.
