Anyone know of a way that you can tell voip which device to use for the mic? For some reason it defaults to my WebCam's mic instead of my mic and there isn't any other way that I have found to tell it what mic to use...

Even if I disconnect the camera, it still doesn't detect the correct input.. Uninstalling the camera isn't an option

Just a wild stab:

Can you go into Sound Properties in Control Panel and select the device you want as the default input?

If you have more than out sound in/out generally the software you are using asks for it to be specified, this may or may not be independant of the default choices in the control panel.

just out of interest, what does it use for VoIP? is it SIP?

Parabol: nope, no options to nominate which device voip is to use.

Stinky: It never prompted me to select which input device I wanted to use

Sent a request to EA (not hopeful of any useful response though)

Some weird stuff with the sound /mic setup. Initially I had a Logitech USB headset, set up in my sound properties to have both 'in game' sound and 'voice' recording done via the Logitech headset. The in game sound was so s*** and crackly it annoyed me, then I started to get BSOD's (which I havent had in 5 yrs) relating to s 'usb.dll ' problem.

SO, I started fresh again and set up my Zalman H/phones to deal with all the in game sounds ect via my Audigy2 ZS s/card, but I left the Logit4ech USB headseat to do nothing but voice recording/transmission via the usb connection. It looks wierd, I have the usb headset round my neck with the mike in front of my face and the Zalman surround h/phones on my head but the setup works perfectly.

I'd say that if you cant select or see an option to direct your voice recording/sound playback in your control setup /sound options then something is seriously screwed up. It should show you any devices you have connected and give you the option to direct your preferences to either?? Are you using onboard sound at all?

^^ I do something very similar =)
I want to get a decent boom mic for my Sennheiser HD-25's instead of using 2 headsets...

With my setup, I have a Creative Live Drive (Platinum LIVE) and use the LINE-IN 2 connection via the front panel. These units were 100% compatible with the first Audigy that came out (which is still my current sound card). Voip doesn't understand this as it appears to only accept connections from the default mic - hence the problem...

I've gotten it to work by using extension cables so that I can reach the mic input on the back of the card however, I liked the control I had by twisting a nob at the front of the tower as opposed to software control

Still, I'd like to see the voip allow the user to nominate which device it was to use as input in the long run

A bit off topic but has anyone tried using a bluetooth dongle and headset for VOIP in BF2?

I use a bluetooth headset for TS/Ventrilo and it does a lovely job.
