That the order of letters within words is relatively unimportant to reading comprehension as long as the first and last letters are in their proper places seems to be self-evident, as demonstrated by the ability of nearly everyone who came across this item to understand what it said (although this is a very general application — results may vary when different types of words and contexts are used), but was there really a university study to this effect?

thats awesome! I Read it no worries 1st go. I think that is the theory behind speed reading as well, skimming through pages, sort of showing your eyes/brain every word without spending time understaing the logic and meaning behind every one.

Yeah I read that correctly the first time without any problems. Some of the attempts in this thread are just plain stupid such as rearranging the letters of a three letter word... . But I had heard of this before though.
