Just thought I'd throw up a thread with some helpful tweaks and tips I've come accross for BF2.
Getting rid of intro movies =========================== Go into the mods/bf2 directory where you have Battlefield 2 installed and edit the Init.con file. You should see these lines bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\EA.bik 1 These lines play all the intro movies, if you put rem in front of each of these lines your game will boot straight to the account selection. Change the lines so they look like this: rem bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\EA.bik 1 This is a nice neat way of doing it that doesn't involve replacing or renaming the movie files. Note: This might end up giving you some problems if you try to play online, some servers seem to bitch if you change any of your scripts. Doh! Forcing a Non-standard resolution ================================= If you need to use a non-standard resolution that isn't available through the in-game video settings (such as 1280x1024 for a widescreen LCD) you can do it using command line arguments +szx and +szy. Edit the properties of the shortcut you use to run BF2, at the moment the command line its executing probably looks something like this: "F:\games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 If you wanted to run in 1280x1024 you would change this to "F:\games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024 Displaying your ingame FPS ========================== To display FPS, open the console and type: renderer.drawFps 1 This will display two numbers in the top left of the screen, the first is your current FPS the second is your average FPS. If your shaders dont get re-optimised properly ============================================== I've had this problem myself, sometimes when you change graphic settings and the game says it needs to re-optimise your shaders next time you load a map, it doesn't actually do it. You can force it to re-optimise them properly though by going into \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ and deleting everything in there, then next time you load a map it'll do the shader optimisation. A lot of this stuff I've just grabbed from or been pointed in the right direction by this handy tweak guide. The guide is for the demo, but a lot of it is applicable to the full version, and its going to be updated to the full version soon apparently. If anyone else has any tips/tweaks, post them here! |

Well, I did the intro removal tweak and then tried to jump on an Internode server and got a message like this..."This server only allows players without a modified game file..blah,blah to play"
So I changed it back to the original and then it would let me join? weird |

Haha, I didn't even think to check if the file was checked by punkbuster or whatever, thats so incredibly dodgy =\ The only thing that script even does is run the intro movies.
Although, come to think of it, I guess they're looking more for people who might be inserting dodgy code into it rather than people who are commenting dodgy code out of it. Damn :( |

you can rename all but the menu and the menu_loaded .bik files in your movie directory to something else and then make empty text files and call them Dice.bik and whatnot and you can play fine.
Punkbuster sucks wang. |
