Topic: Mobo RMA TIME! - anyone work in a computer store ?

Hey guys

I got a gigabyte k8ns pro from a guy on OCAU and its pretty much DOA, fans spin on startup but blank screen, no POST or anything.
Ive looked around and have found out that the origional bios has cold boot problems and a simple flash will resolve the problems - yet i cant boot the computer to flash it.

Does anyone here work for the dick shop or computer alliance and knows if they have the ability to flash the motherboard without booting ??

Cheers

Doesn't that board have Dual Bios? Have you been able to boot from the other, is it automatic? or is that still the problem.

i was working on this board till 4am :(
Basically ive heared that the board doesn't like yum cha ram - but i tested with 5 different brands (including legend but beggers cant be chooers) and no difference.

Powering on then reseting to try and get around a cold start doesn't do jack. The funny thing tho is it throws me the beep code for RAM when i remove the ram and try and boot so its not completly dead, it knows whats going on but its being a whore.

Tried diff gfx card, diff power supily, diff monitor diff ram and thats about it !
ya it has dual but i think the joker that solld it to me flashed it back to V1 bios making me have all the issies, theres no documentation to say how to use the second bios and in my opinion such a feature is a gimic because look at me now, i could use a second bios but noooo they dont tell you how to !

anyone know RMA procedure? their website hasn't got jack

you would think that they would have a clear RMS procedure for their products.

Does anyone here know the procedure? eric the red is AWOL at the moment and he would know the score.. what about dodgymon?

thanks for that link skuzzah but its not an issue i wasnt to wait around for some email to be sent to me !

I used the GGTS website to initiate the RMA process, with a few emails back and forth they got me to send my board to synnex australia, where it was sent to gigabyte, and came back repaired (atleast I assume its reparied, I never got to test it as i sold my intel CPU and bought a amd system, another gigabyte board) the whole s***fight took a month for the emails (there were a few of them back and forth), and then a few weeks to a month again to get the board back again.

Contact me via ICQ: 4046356 or MSN: scuzzy_kawasaki at hotmail dawt com and I'll grab the email transcript.

i thought the second bios couldnt be changed i thought it was to return the other bios to its original format
To do that u just move the jumper next to the bios on the board

the manual talks about the second bios and how cool it is, yet doesn't tell you how to switch bios chips for backup manually, the only refrence i could find is in the bios menu.. which i cant get to :S

disk shop wants to charge mt $60 just to see if it turns on, f***ing rip off

this is what i love about gigabyte

1) they advertise OMG DUAL BIOS OMG OMG OMG then when you actually NEED the other chip you cant access it because you cant manually change the bios over - so you decide to flash the bios in another machine BUT

2) YOU CANT TAKE THE BIOS OUT then you realise you are completly f***ed then

3) you try to email gigabyte about it and have to wair (aparently according to other threads) 2 MONTHS FOR A REPLY

If you manage to fix this let me know, I have a gigabyte board doing similar things that I'd just given up on after screaming at far too much.

I have had similar annoying experiences with Gigacrap mobos... experienceS indicating more than one...

I honestly wouldn't touch them again, unless it was the high end boards however unless it was free or super cheap I'd still go with a more reputable brand.

edit: damn html tags not vb blor

You know whats funny... virtually all of the 100 or so servers that our company has deployed in the past 7 years have had Gigabyte motherboards... in the three years I've worked for them I have only ever seen TWO fail.

We don't build machines... another respected company that has been around for 25 years did. I've deployed many but not all. And before you get onto your high horse, I don't spec them. And seeing as though they work, I don't care what brand is in them, so long as they do.
