Microsoft has today made their RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer PowerToy available for download. This utility provides for viewing of Canon (CRW & CR2) RAW and Nikon (NEF) RAW files as well as TIFF images and other standard image formats (BMP, GIF, PNG, JPEG etc.). The utility is split into a Windows XP shell extension which provides preview / edit / print commands for RAW files as well as a RAW viewer application. It weighs in as a 47 MB download!

Thanks to dpreview.

Nifty I'd say.

Have you seen the latest windows XP advertisement on TV, they state all the wonderous things windows XP can do, but its all 3rd Party software, bam!.

It's a damn shame they don't have anything like this in W2k.
I find that the one thing I would love for W2k from XP is the Photo and Fax Viewer, it's just handy. Other small viewer programs I've tried [like acdsee, etc] just piss me of; whereas the XP Photo and Fax Viewer is pretty seamless and handy.

What does the thumbnailer do?

I'm guessing it creates Thumbnails for RAW images. Just like what the Windows thumbnailer does now for .jpg's etc etc ?

imagemagick & irfanview/acdsee is all you ever need. I've tried others but just keep going back.
