well i turn 21 in a little over a month and a half and i'm starting to look at venues where i can have it, does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations based on prior experience?

i thought about having it at home but not so sure if the folks are into the idea.

Jazz Club at Kangaroo Point. It fkn rules! If you have massive bling then upstairs at the Regatta is pretty fkn cool... but it is sooo expensive.

I'm having a bday party soon too and I was really hoping to find a lisenced venue that also allowed us to BYO. That way I could just take a keg of beer, and if people wanted to drink anything else they could just buy it themselves. Some places still do it apparently but they are hard to find.

Take into consideration that places will make you pay rent PLUS bartab PLUS food, most of the time. Regatta would do you a deal if you got a massive bartab and bought food, but it still works out to be really expensive.

Bowls clubs are pretty cool if you find the right one, like Merthyr Bowls. I'd recommend you find a good place that will let you take your own alcohol and supply your own food. That will work out heaps cheaper. If you have heaps of money to play with go a nice pub or club that will give you your own area. Becareful of some places that offer their venue to hold functions, but then put a whole bunch of function on at the same time in the same room... that is raelly lame.

You could also think about taking a few mates on "The Island". The party boat that cruises along the river. If you did a group booking you might get discounted rates. We paid full price at something like $50 per person. The cool thing is you can drink and eat as much as you want though for the few hours you are on it, then you are right in the city when it finishes!!!

Dude, just ring up a few local community halls or something and have it there. THey gots plenty of tables and chairs and plenty of room, even a stage and shizz. Its worth a go :D

I don't know whether it's the pig n' whistle or the 'bombay polo club', either way, there's a great functioon room right next to the restaurant at indroopilly. It's private until 930/10ish, and it's a nice place.

Im all for looking for a Hall or something along those lines,where you can pretty much do what you want.Wouldnt go to a club...especially with the numbers your talking.

I reckon you can't go wrong with a house party. All the good ones I can remember were house parties.

Talk to your parents about it if they are concerned. Make sure it's an outside party. Don't invite wankers. Should be sweet. Maybe plan going out afterwards. Organise buses if you want to be really nice.

If you're paranoid, get some crowd control. Or cull some of that guest list.

All the good ones, I can't remember.

House parties are always the best. U can club anytime, and clubs are generally annoying at the best of times.

I've been to a couple that weren't at a persons place. One was at a resturaunt at southbank. Greek I think. The hosts paid for a heap of platter type foods to come out. Seafood and stuff throughout the evening. Was good.

Other one was at Myrther or however you spell it bowls club. On the river. Hosts paid for bowls for everyone and a steak and salad dinner.

We also looked at a few other places for my brothers 18th. A few boats on the river. One was reasonably priced at around $500 I think. Don't think that included food or anything. dunno if that was for as many people as you're having though.

just find a good sort of function centre with a bar, pay for free beer and wine (don't do cocktails, people always try those $9 drinks that they would never otherwise buy themselves) and if you're going to get a band, make sure that they a)don't play too much crap, b) don't start off playing so loud that no one can talk

But i was thinkin just have people over my place in the afternoon for drinks and s***...then bus it into the clubs or something.
Means everyones outta my place at 11ish, so i keep the neighbours and my parents happy. And anyone who doesnt wanna go clubbing or doesnt want to stay any longer can go home at 11. Everyone wins!
