Well I saw this the other day, strange movie, but another absolutely brilliant performance by Christian Bale. It also has Michael Ironside and he always rocks too. This is the movie where Christian Bale lost a f***load of weight (like, an unhealthy amount of weight) so he would actually look the part. He is so painfully frail and thin in the movie, its almost disturbing to look at at times.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, its basically about a guy who hasn't slept for a year, and then he starts seeing weird s*** that isn't there, and strange things start happening around him and he gets all paranoid that someone is out to get him and it generally gets weird. Cool movie if you like something a bit out of the ordinary, and while the twist at the end isn't too extreme, and its a bit predictable, its done well and the movie all comes together good.

And heres where the spoiler comes in, cos I've got a question for anyone else who's seen it. Who actually was Ivan? I mean, I get everything else, but who or what was Ivan meant to represent? Was it just meant to represent his guilty conscience or something? Or was there some deeper meaning that I totally missed?

I dunno if its even going to get a release over here, it was really a very high profile movie. I saw it over at a friend's place, he had bought the R1 DVD. Looks like you can grab it off Amazon if you're keen.

It's coming out on DVD here Khel. We had some promo stuff come thru work for it.

Actually, its also apparently in the cinemas here right now too, I didn't even realise. Was just checking times at my local cinema (Browns Plains) and there was times for the Machinist, so I'm assuming if its screening there it'll be screening other places also.

Yeah its a pretty crazy movie. Also, I noticed Ivan has f***ed teeth like one of the dudes sitting at the table at the meeting discussing the accident with Trevor. Could be mebbe that he was made up of lots of people Trevor knew? I don't really know, I just noticed the teeth. Mebbe Ivan is just meant to look like some scary weirdo, which he pulls off quite well.

Watched it about 3 weeks ago I think, was absolutely brilliant. Highly reccomend it.

I saw it at the Regent a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was excellent, obviously cos of Bale, but I also liked the look of the picture and the music was a standout. It's pretty rare when I walk out and think that the music was special.

*SPOILERS*
And as to your question khel that's pretty much it. He is meant to of blocked out all memory and guilt of the incident and that's why he has radically altered his appearance and basically sees things and ppl totally different as to what they really are. He then has Ivan who represents all those things he chose to forget but then he comes back trying to become a part of him again. This is of course how I see it, there's some decent threads on the imdb boards about it.

And imo the ending was a tiny bit weak, I think if the reason had of been a bit more f***ed up it would have made it even better.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I thought. Also, I can't exactly remember without seeing it again, but were the fingers that Ivan lost the same fingers that had been ripped off the hand of Miller's severed arm in that photo they showed Trevor?

Yeah, it was the same fingers. Ivan had toes replaced for his thumb and pinky and that's what Miller lost I *think.* I wouldn't mind seeing it again, hopefully it's released on DVD here soon.
