yep, I predict the old guy will go to jail or something like that. It's f***ing stupid. cops can shoot a guy with a knife from 200m away because he won't put it down but we're not even allowed to defend ourselves in our own homes. I'd like to meet the people who make these laws so I can tell them what I think of them (then go to jail for verbal assault I bet)

God help anyone that I find in my place - none of this "reasonable force" bulls***. I grew up just outside Johannesburg, South Africa, where violent crime is the norm. With an upbringing like mine I subscribe to "Unauthorised entry will be met with unreasonable force". If you choose to enter my home without my permission, you're open season in my view. Civil libertarians can kiss my ass before going back to their tree-hugging hippie s***. I'll cop the stupid ass laws after the fact, but either me or those f***ers will have to be carried out of my place... hopefully them and not me.

The downside to this great country is I can't have my sawn-off, pump-action shotty under my bed anymore. That's my weapon of choice for home defense when I'm half asleep and someones in my house. No clever aiming required. Sure, I'll strip off the paint and ruin the carpet, but I'm unlikely to miss.

In most cases I love the fact that Australia doesn't have a gun culture - but it s***s me that the law doesn't support people when they do try to protect themselves and their families in their own homes.

Good in theory, but what happens when it turns out that they fight just as well if not better then you and you end up on a slab in the morgue ?

Escalating the violence can go either way.

I'm sorry but that is the worst thing I've ever read. If you, as a man, would not put your body and life on the line when people invaded your property for unknown reasons, then you are a faerie. The property you have worked for, and the safety of yourself and your family are now on the line. I would not give a s*** if it turned out to be f***ing Lennox Lewis, I'd beat that giant bastard with the nearest available object to within an inch of his life for daring to invade the only place on this f***ing planet where I have a right to feel totally safe.

Detective Sergeant Rob Clark of Mornington police, urged home invasion victims not to fight back if confronted.

What a f***ing retard! Instead our hero should say "Please keep hitting me with the iron bar, I'm 90 and two more blows should do the trick."?

My advice. To best avoid civil or criminal suits in protecting your property, bury the purp's worthless carcass and tell nobody.

They shoot a Mexican knife thrower out of a cannon.

Effective and cheap.

Thanks.
It was modelled on your mum's arse.

But seriously, what's with the huge sig whinging? Are you on dial up? Does the extra scrolling you have to do hurt your little fingers? I mean if there's a legit reason I can change it, but I can't see why you would even bother to mention it, other than the fact that you can't think of anything else to say.

I don't really care, but I just find it amusing. I like it cos it's always easy to find my posts. But y'know if it really bothers you I would consider changing to something smaller...like a 1:1 scale pic of your limp willy.

I am joking.

I want people to actually be able to see it.

POW.

Obes, like I said:

I guess I tend to expect (and therefore tend to be prepared for) a higher level of violence than most Aussies (a sad bi-product me growing up in a country that's a violent place). In many cases simply standing up to them will give them pause and make them at least consider running. Sitting back and co-operating achieves nothing. I'd be screwed if there were more than two of them or if one person was high on something - because then that thought process of running away will be beyond them and the only recourse is to hammer away until they stop.

I've been these situations twice before and at least I know how I react. I've never been so scared in my life, but so far my theory has worked. But that's not to say it works for everyone. It's a delicate balance between standing up for yourself confidently or walking away when the situation is not controllable. Losing a few possessions is not worth losing your life over.

Basically, I'd try to scare them off by being confident rather than getting into a struggle - because once the physical stuff starts all sorts of accidents can happen. I'm always aware of the fact that you shouldn't take a weapon into a fight unless you are willing to use it - and realise that it can be taken from you and used against you.

But I must admit, I left South Africa because I wanted to get away from worrying about this sort of s*** - and so far life has been very peaceful. Hopefully it'll stay that way for me. :)

It's because there has pretty much been a 'small sig policy' on qgl, and we enjoy the fact that people here usually have nice small sigs and not huge newb gamearena ones with people's system specs done in wordart and s***.

Imo, yours is too big (but not newb gamearena big)

Man, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that.

Ok well fair enough if it doesn't fit with the 'QGL accepted practice' then I take your point.

Probably because I am relatively new on the board, and as such an easy target to score a few homo points by pointing out something I'm not in on. But yeh, I'll cop that. It's no biggie.

Consider it considered.

I was trying to be nice :)

Soon an admin may make the decision for you, and then there will be no sigs for you, come back one year etc etc :P

Sorry fpot, was talking about Astroboy actually.

I am trying to change it now, but I am having trouble. I have uploaded image to sig thing but it won't change. Took me ages last night too, and I can't seem to recreate what I did. I logged in changed it logged out etc but nup.

Sorry not trying to derail thread.

I'll figure it out.

And yeah that old guy is a fookin champ. I have seen a few oldies after they have been beaten up and even raped by intruders. Surely there is a point where you should be able to live out the rest of your days in dignity and safety. Kunts who rape/bash old people should get special treatment ie. set on fire.

edit: WOOHOO it worked. Better now?

As if the old dude will get in trouble. They hit him first, so it is self defence. All you people believe beat up in movies and s*** where people always get sued when a robber breaks his leg on a toy in the front yard. It really doesn't happen that often.
If the old guy gets in trouble though...

Two&Eight i agree with everything you said.Back in the day when i use to carry a gun (dont anymore...public liability sucks) we were taught by the police to shoot to kill, that way,its your word against a corpse. And none of that fancy shooting them in the knee cap s***....shoot to kill, that way they cant sue (although there family may try,but were they there when it happened??)

isnt there some loophole where if you drag them out onto your front garden or street your then not leagally liable for what happens to them? And you can claim self-defence, etc.

Years ago my friend's dad shot a burgler and the cops came round and asked "did you fire a warning shot?" to which he replied that he hadn't. So one of the cops asked for my friend's dad's pistol and used it to shoot a hole through the ceiling and then said "there's your warning shot". True story.

that is pretty cool but i would've said the fact that there's a hole in the theif's leg is a good enough warning to start with.

There were a few holes in the thief's chest and nowhere else. When a guy's charging at you with a knife, shooting at his leg ain't gonna stop him stabbing you (unless you're packing a .45 or .357 which will knock you backwards wherever the hell you hit him). I used to shoot mostly with a 9mm which hasn't got a lot of stopping power, so good aim and multiple impacts are called for.
