Just in case anyone is interested, the casino I work for has a position going

Couple of catches though

1: Job is in Alice Springs, Northern Territory
2: Have to be able to obtain a gaming license (casino)

Still interested? For anyone who is interested in moving to a remote location (I would use other words to describe living out there), then read on, post a reply and I'll forward you the relevant contact details individually.

Info:

Basic functions of the position are maintenance of Lasseters Hotel Casino Network, Dacom, Micros, Fidelio System, and a Windows infrastructure to ensure that current and future needs of the business are met.

EDUCATION:

Essential: Year 12 or equivalent.

Highly Desirable:

· MCSE certification or similar.
· If not certified a commitment to gaining certification within a set time period.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

· Relevant and current knowledge of Windows based networks, Microsoft Office applications and PC fault finding and repair.

· Ability to obtain the appropriate government license from any jurisdiction that Lasseters operate within

· Demonstrated ability to work within a small, highly qualified, technical team.

Highly Desirable:

· Experience in a rapidly changing work environment.

· Regular and current experience in Dacom, Micros and Fidelio.

· Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under pressure

· Exposure to working within and maintaining a 24 hour / 7 day computer operation.

A good salary might lure me away... but it'd have to be good to live in the middle of nowhere.

i get that much as a retail pleb in the big smoke...

obviously that is a junior possition, and will give a kid some great experience though.

When I was looking to get into the IT industry I would have gone for something like that.

Yeah, haha, some of their desirables are a little high considering the nature of the work, the salary, and where they are.

But hey, what do I know?

Yeah well, as rodolphe guessed, it is a junior position an as to the *desirables* list, it is just that, a wish list which would make it a little easier for you to comprehend all that you are being taught. You pretty much get shown how to do everything anyway. Just a s***ty location

If you pay that for it your nuts...

Your far better off just paying for the exams an learning yourself. I know a guy who shelled out the massive bling for the course and noone would hire him as he didn't have any real world application knowledge, he got so discouraged by this he changed career paths into something completely unrelated. What a waste of cash.

Sif the pay shouldn't be higher to work out there. YOu get payed s***loads to work on mines and stuff out there, mostly due to the location.

Ouch, but then again the qualification requirements aren't very high so it would suit a uni grad or someone along those lines.

Pfft! You're better off making work pay for it :D

Reasons I think the job sucks (personally)...

- Remote location
- Commitments
- Did I mention it was f'king hot there?
- Shift work (kiss my arse ;P)
- Salary (ouch @ relocating for that - though if you're no the dole this is a real step up)

Basically this would suit someone who was single, no family commitments or loose commitments :) For someone finding it hard to break into the industry it would look good on your resume too. Working for Banks, Casino's, etc always looks good on a resume. Shows a level of trust which isn't necessarilly there when you work for Yow Chum's: Local PC Chop Shop (aka Gamedude). I can imagine you will pick up some good experience too.

Whoever was saying there aren't any IT jobs...pffft! They're even being advertised on the QGL forums :D

"between $35 - 40K. You do however get 5 weeks annual leave."

So you can live in a s*** hole (no offence to any poor sods living out there).
And you get 5 days extra of annual leave a year. ie. its worth an extra $700 to $1000 dollars in real terms.

That said, it doesn't actually require you to have a degree or any professional certs.

mines are like dirty and s***. working for a casino would be in like some sort of oasis in the middle of australia.

i doubt you would get very dirty in this job, (unless you touched the gins).

A cousin of mine worked in Alice Springs for a couple of years. He didn't mind it. Owns a house there now that he makes a killing on since rent in "decent" areas is quite high.

Having casino experience is good, cause it then gives you a bonus when going for other casino jobs. Had a friend bouncing around casinos' sys-admining, was out on christmas island (?) for a while, which was a real rort - tax free booze, tax free income (?), plenty of perks.. and on top of that, with most remote work, nothing to spend your money on so you have that deposit for a house in no time.

I was actually asking for a mate who lives in Darwin at the moment, he was looking for work along those lines. I'll talk to him about it and get back to you.
