ok so ep 14 is out and i gotta say i am impressed where this is headed. marwan has fooled ctu and has jack all to himself and all the terror attacks are a cover of some sort to take out the president's air force one.

sure has got me hooked anyways.

discuss.

Pretty over the top really. Like taking out the president is more impressive than executing the Secretary of Defence in a public trial or melting down 250+ nuclear reactors, or even the initial targetted blowing up of the train to steal the power station back door. Some lone guy in a store room can take out the president, and even shooting at him from an airstrip can get you a hit (Reagan). It's not like it's hard. There better be something more to this than shooting down air force one.

I really like this season so far, but hopefully it can keep up the pace its set for itself so far. I'm with natslovr, I hope theres more to it than just shooting the president because that is really, really boring.

hopefully the president will die and america will go into anarchy and the big black hardcore dude will come back and own s*** up

also it would be awesome if that ghost like chick that tried to assassinate the black pres will be involved, hopefully they will tie her into it again.

After doing extensive research on Air Force 1 (watching air force 1) it seems it has very advanced countermeasure abilities, and it would probably take more than a missile to take it down, plus it is always escorted isn't it?

works for me but here is cut and paste

Hollywood, CA - Fox was uncharacteristically candid this week about the next hour in one of CTU agent Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) many harrowing days. In an interview with Variety, executive producer Evan Katz revealed the next hour of this season's 24-hour "day," from 7-8 p.m., would mostly focus on Jack eating a sandwich.

"Many fans remarked how Jack never seems to stop for anything," said Katz. "Since the episode is the proverbial deep breath before the plunge, we decided Jack needed some nourishment."

While Katz declined to get specific, he did share a few moments from the episode. As CTU searches frantically for Marwan and tries to uncover McLennan-Forster's secrets, Jack's SUV power-slides into an In-N-Out Burger in Van Nuys. He jumps out, dashes inside and hurriedly orders a Double-Double with no pickles, fries and a Dr. Pepper.

Naturally, the order goes horribly wrong.

The barely sentient cashier fails to enter Jack's order correctly, so the sandwich arrives with pickles anyway. He then tells Jack that the Dr. Pepper spout is broken. "Listen to me," Jack says, grabbing the cashier by the shirt. "I need you to take the pickles off now. There's no time to explain – you're going to have to trust me."

Bauer is then forced to choose between Coca-Cola and root beer while the cashier ponders a solution to the pickle crisis.

The balance of the episode is a series of intercuts between the chaos at CTU headquarters and Jack as he eats his sandwich, reads the paper and visits the rest room. As for what Jack does about the soda situation, Katz said, "Jack's a resourceful guy – he'll think of something."

In-N-Out burgers are superb! Fastfood like Maccas or HJs, but taste like a Fish n Chip shop burger!

Their fries 0wn too. :)

Well, after listening to the last bit again - the report is an "indirect" hit...then looking at the footage in freeze frame, you actually see one of the escort planes blow up, and the people in Air Force One get shaken about from the outside explosion..

So I'm gonna guess that they tried to fool us. We'll find out tomorrow! :D

If the president isn't dead that'll be very disapointing. Thankfully 24 has a history of doing the right thing, like when Jack actually shot his boss when the Ts demanded it.

Pieces of the escort plane perhaps?

I watched the end again too in slow motion, and yeah, it seems Air Force one wasn't hit itself. Theres a big explosion, and then when it cuts to the inside of the plane, you can see the explosion through the windows, happening outside next to the plane. When its all fast and hectic like they showed it it looks like the explosion comes inside the plane and blows everything up, but its actually just the light and stuff from it coming through the windows.

their current aims do not justify everything else that they've done today.

detonating 1 nuke < 250 meltdowns

the 250 meltdowns should've been the final act, not act #2.

In summary:

Blew up train and confiscated nuke meltdown
Kidnapped the Secretary of Defense on US soil, to hold him for trial and execute live on the internet (assuming he is found guilty)
Initiated a meltdown of 250 nuclear reactors
Stole stealth fighter, shot down airforce one
Stole nuclear football and nuclear warhead

To me the current act is not more impressive than any of the previous ones apart from blowing up the train. Unless their aim is just to continually terrorise the US until they are caught, in which case that is fine.

On that note, the stealth fighter's been flying in the air for two hours without doing anything, wonder if it'll be back next ep to do some more damage.

The stealth fighter was shot down, no word on if Mitch Anderson survived or not.

I don't really know much about what happens during a nuclear meltdown, but it is pretty much an explosion of the reactor, and the bad part is how radiation leaks out and kills people yeah? To me that is nothing compared to a nuclear warhead blowing up and levelling a city instantly.

well they evacuated everyone within 30KM of Chernobyl but claim that while it released 400x more radiation than Hirroshima it was significantly less than during atmospheric atmoic bomb testing. So i would imagine that 250 nuclear reactors melting down it pretty bad.

You've also got the issue that if the US is down 250 nuclear power plants, that's a lot of power it is no longer generating.

All that compared to 1 city.

i disagree, they would have known that the government would have overrides for nuclear power plants so it was always distractive ploy.

However when you get a highly mobile, fully armed nuke and presidential launch codes, now you're talking ability to hit key targets in metropolitan areas anywhere on the continent.

Although I hate the new president.

Season 5: CHINA VERSUS THE USA

But seriously, I reckon season 5 (if there is one) will be set in the past, during Jack's unsuccessful mission to kill victor dreyzen in kosovo.

That means Stephen Saunders will be back and not an enemy, which would be cool, and also perhaps Nina will have a hand in there somewhere.

As for missile, doesn't the states have ways of shooting down missiles these days, or is the technology still flakey? Would've thought it'd be better for em to fly it in a plane - oh wait, flash-back to season 2!

Rule #58753 of movies.

If guys body is not seen, and you don't put two bullets into his head yourself (one is not sufficient), said bad guy can surface again later.
If body is not spotted, or is spotted but later disappears after discovery, said bad guy reserves the right to resurface.

yeah it's called Geographic-Time-Shifting (geotimeshift), and is sure to be completely legal under the 'fair use' review the government is considering.. It's basically the view that once content is broadcast anywhere in the world you can time shift it, even if you don't happen to live in that part of the world, since we are all one big happy global internet village anyway. It's not my fault they broadcast 24Season4 at 9PM US East Cost time, cause i'm busy then and in Australia.

As soon as I saw the long black hair i knew it was her. She's had so little to do in the show, but she's always been involved in cool things, from blowing up a passengerliner (and blowing our minds) in the very first episode of the first season, to toxicly poisoning soon-to-be-President Palmer in a latter ep.

I recon Marwon may have been meeting a certain China Queen out in international waters. Hopefully Season 5 will continue on in close proximity to this season, rather than years down the track, with Jack investigating links with Marwon and China's sponsorship of his terrorism.

Focusing on China also means they don't have to worry about CAIR kicking up a stink again about nothing.
