A massive new update for Counter-Strike: Source has been released. A new map is available - cs_compound - de_train has been ported to the Source engine. The update was shortly followed by another update to fix a server bug that was preventing players from joining servers; simply restart Steam to get the new goods. |

train = good
compound = sux Train looks very nice, they've done a really nice job on it. Plays just as well as the original although has some new sneaky hidey holes. Compound is HUGE and way too open... 90% of the time you have to try and cover 360 degrees and more often than not you get shot in the back. Its also an autosnipers paradise and become super lame when a few T's just campout the windows and mow everyone down. Hostage room is really stupid IMO. I wish they'd stop trying to make new (crappy) maps and port some of the old classics like assualt (which supposedly inspired compound, assault was a million times better), nuke, militia and docks. New CT model is a breath of fresh air but why not give the ability to choose the original source CT or the new ski goggles one. Thats my view on the new stuff. Edit: b0rked up the spelling of militia last edited by rubba-chikin at 17:35:10 25/Feb/05 |

fine delete my post and the other thread.
anyway i love the new maps. even though compound is a snipers dream its still fairly fun to play. the only bad thing was when all the ct's decided to snipe isntead of rescuing the hosties. train looks very nice and theres around 400 new camping spots and its one of my fav maps. rev it took me about 2 secs to download the update. |

I was a bit worried that compound would be basically "Assault for CSS". Sounds like that may be true :(
Been looking forward to the CSS version of Train though. It's one of my favourite maps in regular CS. So what's the go with the model? They didn't add one they just changed the existing one? |

The CT's look like gridiron players now, but they still look badass.
I f***ing love the new train, it is so well done with awesome attention to detail. train always has a special place in my heart, that was the map [SAS] beat 12monkeys on and we came 3rd at CPL in melb. compound seems pretty cool. i only played it for a little bit and there were too many players on the server so it was mainly just spammy s***. i am generally a fan of the attack/defend one main building style maps. very nice update, bring back more oldschool maps. |

Having had a chance to play these now, I like train but it's a bit hard on the framerate. Even with an A64-3200 + 1GB Ram + x800Pro (16 pipe) I'm often seeing framerates in the red. Admittedly that's at 1280x960 with 8xAF and 4xAA but I didn't expect it to be that slow.
On the other hand Compound gets nice framerates but I don't like the map much. It's horrendous when playing against bots, you get picked off way too easy. Playing against people is better but turns into choke fests where everyone bunches up and gets slaughtered. A couple more models would be very nice. Wouldn't add to gameplay much, but at least it'd be easier to tell who your teammates are. I mean if you've got a friend on the team they could choose a specific model instead of everyone using the same one. |

I'd like to see dynamic models. What do I mean by that? You have a base model and when you equip the items appear on the model, ie you get a helmet if you buy one, a vest if you buy one, nightvision etc (not that anyone ever uses it).
Seeing they've already done it with grenades and defuse packs theres no reason it can't be done. It would add a small element of diversity within each player model and I reckon itd be sweet. |

f*** you steam :( I just got DSL installed and decided to give it a try ... Took me 1½ hours to update on my 7Mbit connection. I ended up having to block Content Server 27's IP since to force Steam to download from a faster server. The game seems ok. Runs like arse though (compared to previous versions). I half expect CTs to spawn with a football. |

Yeah I had the same problem the other day when I tried to update, was getting the same crappy US server and dling at about 3k/s. In the end I blocked a couple content servers in my firewall and the next time I tried it used internode and dled at about 500k/s.
