I am currently using azureus as my bit torrent client and want to limit my uploads to 4k/s so that they don't max out my connection. The problem is that if I do this through azureus it limits my downloads to 8k/s whereas 5k/s upload lets you download at 27k/s but makes everything extremely slow. I remember people talking about an application which lets you do this but couldn't find the thread. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the details of every torrent and set its upload limit to 1 kb/s. I'm pretty sure it doesn't throttle you unless you use the wizard, which probably sets your download limit.

Mine doesn't do that, are you using the latest version?

Yeah I'm using 2.2.0.2 and no, I'm not using the wizard. Maybe I'm just stupid :)

Thanks Xandrax, just tried what you suggested and it worked. Shoulda seen that myself. I must be tired.

I use Netlimiter to throttle my torrent uploads/downloads. I still use azeurus, but I set the hard upload and download limits in netlimiter so I'm sure its limiting it properly. Just that I've had some weirdness with azeurus reporting download and upload speeds which are way off what is really going on.

Also, you might want to limit the number of connections per torrent. I am on ISDN now, and I had it set to about 100 connections per torrent, and even with only one download going at a time and uploads limited to 5k/s, it would completely hose my connection and make it unuseable. I now have it limited to 30 connections per torrent and it works perfectly.

Khel, are you using the NT1+2 modem or whatever it is that telstra provides?

I've got a Shiva AccessPoint which is a fairly old router but it worked well. I got it because my NT1+2 dropped out constantly (just like everyone's did, I don't know if they've fixed the issues yet). It does 128k, BoD etc except it doesn't like DVO. It maybe stuffed up and needed rebooting every month or so, which is pretty good for such old technology. If you're interested in it give me a buzz on msn: mandrakethepenguin@hotmail.com
