it could be a lot of things, from your phone line being f***ed from the wind ( dont laugh, its happening)

Why dont your ring the ISps technical support and ask if there is any known problems to the service?.

I would doubt it would be your computer, but you never know.

wtf phone lines being f***ed from the wind??

my net has gayed itself, well i think my phone line has anyway cause when i talk on the phone there is noise and static and when i connect to the net i connect at random speeds where as i usually connect at 31,200bps but atm i am at 16,800bps and it random between 7,000bps and 21,400bps :( :( :(

been like this since saturday night, i supose i should call tel$tra and tell them ??

2 of my friends have had the same/similar problem, what happens is they connect to da net, then after about 10 minutes the recieving data drops rapidly till it hits rock bottom, then tis f***ed,
one of my friends re-installed windows
the other still has it

Now that you mention it, I'm getting really bad pings in cs (400-800), not as bad in q3 though. Yes, I've been playing modem q3 :D.

i had the same problem dangles with my internet. Then after puting 2k on from 98 it worked fine.

As for the problem at hand my net also did what your saying yours does and it was not my puter it was my isp cause i woke up one morning and it worked fine. So if your going to do anything at all call the techies like Eds said.

Some programs modify settings in Windows such as MTU (Maximum Transmittable Unit). All those "internet booster" programs adjust things they shouldn't. Windows 98 has autodiscovery features for these settings so you don't need to install those applications. Reinstall Windows and it might fix it. Otherwise the problem is obviously elsewhere.

email primus and ask them if there is a specific string for your modem.
Also ask Gaystra to test your line for noise.
You might need a string in your modem initalisation
to tell it to connect a lower speed which maybe more stable.

If all else fail dump Primus and join UQ they are cheap with good access I used them before cable
you also get a techie immediatley.
they will even set up your box for you if you want a trip to UQ prentice center.

I wonder if people realise there is a limited number of homes with cable therefore meaning a limited number of people who can get it. And don't say "move" because its not that simple, eventually there will be no houses to move to in order to get cable. More or less the number of cabled homes is finite.

Meatman, I have iprimus and I'm on the coast as well.

Its an absolute sack of an isp, the constant chunkiness is just the ISP and those big 30 sec lagouts you get every know and then are primus as well. I've tried other isps and its like night and day.
