At the Target I work at we sell a fair amount of billiard gear. Probably not the greatest quality though.

edit: pacific fair.

Spook its the same with any sport.

You dont just "walk in anywhere" and buy anything and your set. People who are serious about their sports are after certain equipment and advice

Try to tell a golf player to go into "any" sport store like a-mart lol

Anyway

Back to the topic, if anyone can help, would be appreciated

Yeah lol.. I'd tell any 'beginning' golfer to goto a-mart... because the stuff is cheap... Same with boxers, soccer players, cricketers, rugby players, tennis players, swimmers....

Sorry what was the point again?? Oh yeah its a sports store, selling sports equipment...

People who are serious about their sports are after certain equipment and advice
Nah they're not, they should already know what they need, what they're doing wrong and how they're going to fix the issue... They're the ones least likely to need advice.. Its the noobs that need the advice

i buy cheap rackets, coz i break them (too much power)

more expensive rackets break just the same llama, i dont particualarly fancy buying a 200 dorrah squash racket regularly

if its something im not going to have to replace regularly, ill spend cash on it

perhaps if were out practicing more (and posting less) greeny u wouldnt be such a walk over eh?

Yes boxhead beginners at a sports store that is correct you amz teh smart!!

A "beginner" billiard/snooker/pool player uses the "pool halls" cue's....

Im looking to buy one for myself. The point of this thread is to see if anyone here can recommend anywhere.

And so far German is the only one. Thanks for that btw.

i don't think it's a very common product at all.. most people use the cues that are there for them, and if you're playing competition you would obviously want your own..

What you're ACTUALLY after is to be more specific.

What's your price range?
Are you after:

Graphite?
One piece?
Two piece?

My opinion is:

You want something in a one piece unfinished canadian ash.

Also:

Smoke you any day 3/4 size or higher.

Also also:

Don't use the tables at Strike Bowling Bar, $9 long island ice teas do not guarantee table flatness in any sense of the word.

theres two good places i know of, neislers at nundah just down behind nundah train station, baileys at northgate

also the billiard shop on kessels road macgregor is where i got my good snooker cue from, they are quite well priced compared to neislers and baileys

Sure why not? That's what discussion forums are about, asking questions and ppl informing others. Better yet how bout you take a knife insert it into your neck and see how long you can breathe for, thats a game suited only to you sir*.

If you've never owned a cue before, don't buy graphite.

There's no advantage unless you wish to lay big money on the table.

Also: Even though I have a two piece, I suggest one piece unfinished, for the record. A one piece cue might be less convenient, but you can feel the game better through it, and besides, they look cooler. Niesler are quite good, they're refinishing my table at the moment, and doing a decent job of it.

Also also: Any day Spook, Fat Louies used to be the place to be, but their private room (though nice inside) makes the place feel a bit cluttered, and I don't much like their change of manager/staff. Tables are good but seems like they're not maintained as well as befor. Qmasters at Milton fyi. Actually haven't been to QMasters for a while, must get back there..

Compwise, hit up the Pavillion at WE on Mondays, it's fun.

Go where?

Qmasters?

Sometimes, I still go to Fat Louies more, because it's easier. I play pool at home mostly, but if I'm out and about and somebody wants a game, town is usually easiest.

Pavillion?

Now and again, I play their comps maybe once a month?

then they moved and phil got beaten up, so we stopped going

now i just play in pubs

shame the muddy farmer charges me 3 bux a game :(

at least souths used to be 1 buck a game, but that finished up a few years ago as well :(

Dont bother posting huge forum breaking links, if you really want to do that, use http://tinyurl.com

Also, theres World Class Billiards on Farfield road at Yeronga, they seem pretty good. Granted I've never actually bought anything from them, but their service is good.

depending on how you play is what u should be looking for in a cue kaygen, i went to neislers and my graphite cue was $290, then went to the billiard shop and the identical cue was $170, got a 17 1/2 ounce, really quite a nice cue to use

most of these places will help u choose the best cue in the price range, etc

f*** pool grunt - we're talking billiards here.

billiards is the real game of skill, followed by snooker. Pool is just a game for noobs in the pub.

that or kaygen has his terminology messed up.

shame billiards is boring as s***

pool is the most fun to play

snooker is ok

9-ball is ok as well, but 8-ball is a better game

Billiards is 2 white balls 1 red.

And they ALL take skill, Spidz is just crap at 8 Ball :p.

billiards is one red ball and two white balls, or one white and one cream.

sure all the games take skill, but 8-ball is a long way behind. People just knock the ball up near the pockets to sink later and leave balls blocking the pots etc etc. Snooker is far more aggressive and skilful.

To correct Spidz: That's how PRATS play 8 ball.

Real 8 ball play is in the positioning of all your shots, at a higher level it's every bit as hard as the other games, it's only pub games which are silly.

Actually for the record, I generally don't play in pubs/clubs, it just seems like a bit of a waste, and not a real game of pool... Not that I want to be snobby about it or anything, I just always figured it was an activity to make something of all on its own..

of course its about positiong shots.

but in 8 ball you get rewarded for missing shots earlier because you can leave your balls in perfect position near the pockets for later.

in snooker you can't set your shots up for later, because you make one bad shot and your opponent can finish off all your handiwork.

u playing it wrong then.

missing shots is bad regardless. ie i count how badly i flog u by the number of your balls still on the table. real pool players with any skill do not hog pockets.

More to the point it's thoroughly pointless in a real game, precisely BECAUSE the angles involved are not particularly difficult. It means that a good player can make a shot from pretty much anywhere on the table, so you can't just cover the pockets and have leave them there for later, because your opponent will just sink everything around you, and you'll end up with 7 setups and your pants around your ankles.

The Billiard place on Kessels road moved, there still in that "centre" but now they are next to Northfield....you can see them from Kessels Road. They make all their own gear so if you want a custom job,i'd head in there and have a look.
