I'm willing to chip in my $20, its not a great deal but every little bit counts right?
Does anyone know of an easy way to send my dollars over there safely? I've got a CC but I'd be hesitant on using it on a site, I can imagine plenty of scammers would have already setup fake sites. |

Reuters:
United States' initial grant of $35 million in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster in South East Asia was "only the beginning of our help" but he did not announce an immediate increase in aid. Bush said. "In the year 2004, our government provided $2.4 billion in food and cash and humanitarian relief ... That's 40 percent of all the relief aid given in the world last year." |

I wonder if the red cross will do what they did with all the money donated for the bali bombings... a lot of it ended up being used for their other causes...

Please try to avoid donating cash/money as not all of it gets to where you want.
Donating goods such as canned food and bikes and whatnot are much better as the whole donation gets to its target. |

give the cash to a charity such as red cross so you know its going to the people in trouble.
donating money to govts and shiz is like giving a drug addict $100 to buy some food. |

just heard on the news:
Donations = $300million total (it was commented 'this is as much as is spent in Iraq in 5 hours') UK = Somewhere around $165mil US = Pathetic (for their size and money) = $45mil AU = $35million (i dono how good out economy is) The other money probably came from slightly smaller donations and charities.etc 87,000 confirmed dead. |

thats one big wave....and multiple countries people are now saying on msn 'please put a rose infront of your nickname to remember those who died' how the f*** is that meant to help anyone? - they seem to think that their rose means they have a bigger heart then the people who are donating s*** that will actually make a change |

Think of the living conditions too, some of those dodgy huts are close to the water, plus they have like 200 kids in their family within the hut.

Is that white wall in the background the tsunami approaching? If so, that is one of the more ominous and scary pictures I have ever seen. |

heh i think that shot was taken like 40secs max before the thing landed.. there was a story on the news the other day about a guy who was trying to take a photo of it with a telephoto lens, his family screamed at him to come with them to the hotel, he said just 1 more shot.. In the time it took him to take the shot and turn to run he was already swept up by the water...

Oxfam seems like the way to go. There was all that hoo-har with the red cross after Bali...
Looks like Australians have been very generous so far promising over $17 million in private donations on top of the government's $35 million. And we seem to actually be doing something about the problem, instead of sitting around waiting for the UN to pretend to do something. |

US gave 45 million... then upped it to 450 million... that figure will continue to rise as will contributions by other governments as the situation becomes clearer as to what is needed...

imagine how much money they could raise to donate if they just donated like 1% of all gst for a month
then people would be donating without costing them anymore and without having to go out of their way to donate or risking their money to frauds |
