Topic: movie files crashing my comp

hey guys, i got this weird problem with some of the .avi files i got on my computer. if i open the folder they are in, within about 4 seconds i get a windows error and the folder freezes and i gotta ctrl-alt-delete, to get out. But the funny thing is, if i really quickly run the file before it gets a chance to freeze, windows media player opens fine and the the movie runs fine. im not sure wats going on ey, it might have something to do with the codecs but really im just guessing.

any help who be great

Get the lingo right, it's not crashing your comp, it's crashing explorer. :P

Have you got explorer set to show tiles in folders?

If you have an older copy of photoshop, it has some explorer plugin preview thingy where it can slow down and crash explorer in dirs with lots of movie files, as it tries to create icons from the contents (even though thumbnails might not be turned on and you're not actually running photoshop).

Choose Windows classic folders and see if that helps. If you have it so it previews stuff then that's when all the shenannigans start happening. Go into tools then folder options and change it there.

Choose Windows classic folders and see if that helps

^ listen to that man. It'll also help with files that can't be deleted ('in use' errors).

Especially if it's something simple as changing the folders to windows classic.
