OMG!!! OMG!!!

I cannot recommend this movie enough. I remember reading a review for the region 4 release in Hyper or PC Powerplay earlier this year and they gave it a great rap. Well, finally got around to seeing the DVD of this last night and it was f***ing amazing. I would even go as far as saying one of the best war movies ever made. Extremely emotional and I guess very realistic in terms of what happened when America bombed the crap outta Japan. If you love watching anime stuff and you haven't seen this yet go down to your local video store and rent it or go and buy it. I really can't recommend this movie enough.

Format: DVD
Rating: M (Adult themes)
Rel. Date: 10 Feb 2004
Run Time: 88.0mins
Language(s): English, Japanese
Produced: 1988
Aspect: 1.85:1 Widescreen

In the aftermath of a World War II bombing, two orphaned children struggle to survive in the Japanese countryside. To Seita and his four-year-old sister, the helplessness and indifference of their countrymen is even more painful than the enemy raids. Through desperation, hunger and grief, these children's lives are as heartbreakingly fragile as their spirit and love is inspiring.

That's studio ghibli for you. Top notch effort. I felt the same way about Grave of the fire flies. If you had a dry eye at the end of that movie you're a heartless bastard.

The title does actually make a heap of sense once you've seen the whole thing.

I've had this movie for ages on svcd but never got around to watching it, I'm so happy ghibli has finally made it to our shores, I picked up mononoke hime the other week as it's one of my favourites.

All ghibli stuff is great, I've got a real old school nausicaa vhs lying round which I still watch :D

Bad Santa isn't even in the same league as this movie.

I found this movie a little slow, if someone doesn't lose a limb then I kind of lose interest.

Grave of the Fireflies is based on the novel Hotaru no Haka("A Grave of Fireflies") by Akiyuki Nosaka.

he he he. The best thing about studio ghibli is that they've got Miyazaki. Look at the quality of titles like lupin, spirited away and others by Miyazaki. The man is the god of animation direction.

Yay lets watch depressing anime, then later we can slit our wrists and write about it on live journal!

But seriously that movie is really sad, it wasn't crap but, I'm never watching it again!
