Well Aussie Gamers have chosen Blackrock as the Unofficial Australian WoW server to play on for PvP and Proudmore for PvE, so if you want to play with locals this would be the place to head. Servers are up and online now and the game goes on sale here tomorrow (the 24th).

So who's going to be playing Horde and who's going to be playing Alliance? Remember, you can't have characters from both sides on the one server (if its a PvP server).

horde but I wont be playing on any australian server becuase of goon squad server selection :(
s if go pvp, you'll get jerks camping the low level areas of the opposing faction.
Actually, fears of being ganked are unfounded. Blizzard are implementing an honor system where you will have less and less honor for killing players lower than your level. If you reach low enough honor players from your race or side (alliance/horde) will be able to kill you. I doubt many would do it as a result. Certainly no high level players...

We should definately create a QGL guild of some sort if a lot of us are interested in playing. I was intending on playing Alliance but if the majority wants to play Horde I wouldn't mind switching to Tauren warrior instead.

I'll miss Stormwind City though :)

Horde on Blackrock, probably orc rogue. It will be good playing on a server with a decent number of aussies.

I'm probably going to play alliance up front (human paladin) with some uni friends and a few old time friends from fnqgl ...

Although you might see us adventuring on horde pvp later on :)

I'll be going Night eld druid again on the PvP server. Quite enjoyed when horde would start raids on arbadine and then we would counter raid and chase em back :)

has the PvP server have the same amount of quests to do compared to the PvE server?

also, is it different lands, so different quests?

Alliance for me, and we will destroy any people silly enough to pick the horde.

Server: Blackrock
Had a lvl 49 NE Warrior

Want a Human pally

Might go the rouge but cloth/leather armor is a worry for my hacknslash style

Can this not become another wow discussion thread and just stay as a "Post where you will be playing" thread? Otherwise it gets too hard sifting through the trolls and the flames trying to find people's details.

Edit: Deleted a bunch of posts to keep the thread on track, dont take it personally if one of your posts got deleted, I deleted a bunch of my own as well :)

What race is the best for rogue?

Im thinking troll atm because of the 10% hp regen but undead looks cool because of the corpse eating..

What is the best in your opinion?

Khel
Posts: 8750

Troll, definately. Trolls have higher agility, the beserk ability would be great with a rogue, and they get a bonus to throwing weapons.

Having said that, remember this isn't a thread to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each class and/or race. This is the closest we have to a directory of QGL's wow players at the moment so I'm going to be keeping it pretty clean and on track so its as easy as possible to find people's details. Just post details of what you will be playing, and where you will be playing it. Make a new thread if you want a discussion.

According to the HN fellows they're sold out of all copies in all stores. Unless you've pre-ordered he reckons you won't be getting a copy from them. But that's just him. Ring around and see if you can find a free copy any where. He said their orders were all for pre-orders and they have an order in for next week which will cover everyone else.

You know if you actually read the general forum where the developers are posting you will quickly learn the queues are in place atm to stop everyone flooding one server.

People see a queue and think .. hmm i'll roll on another server instead of driving one server to run at heavy load 24/7.

This server queue s*** is a bit annoying.

I had a 1500 ping in-game on Blackrock, so I decided to reboot my modem / PC, see if that would help it (I was the only one in-game with a ping that high).

I reboot everything, go to log back in, and end up waiting about 45 minutes to be able to log back in.

1 minute to go - I bet the lag isn't even fixed yet.

whats happening is they dont want 10000 ppl all rocking up at once and playing in the lvl 1-10 areas at the same time... so they are keeping the player caps ALOT lower then they would normally be...

over the next few weeks they will increase the caps till its all normal...

that way the players will be properly balanced out across all the servers

Maybe this is the sort of thing you should have checked out before buying the game? Oh, and for the record, asking the salesperson at EB isn't counted as checking it out, like they have any idea about the s*** they're selling half the time.

Spoon I have the exact same problem. No CC and Gamecards are not even out yet. But easy up, its not EBs fault. If you head over to the blizzard site the first news item says:
We are also experiencing a brief supply delay with the retail pre-paid game cards. The game cards will be ready to ship this coming Monday, November 29 and should begin appearing in stores where World of Warcraft is sold shortly thereafter. We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide additional information as soon as it is available.

Shipped 29 so give a few days for the shops to do their work, im going to guess early December. Sucks I know.

(NO FAGHATS I CANT GET A CREDIT CARD OR A DEBIT CARD)

The game comes with a free month of play, so stores are likely to have the gamecards in before then. They're not going to want your CC if you can pay via gamecards, surely

pvp = player vs player
pve = player vs enviroment

pvp you fight against other people (alliance vs horde)

pve you fight against the animals/beast/...etc

pvp is much better, even if you are a noob to mmorg

The thing is, PVP servers have virtually ZERO PVP if you dont want any. You have to go into contested zones for it. You WILL NOT be ganked in noob zones EVER.

You can have big ass battles between alliance horde in PVP. If that couldnt be done it would suck, hence by extention, PVE servers... SUCK :P

PvP in most games is for people that like a good fight. PvE is for tree hugging carebears.

The PvP servers for WoW though are pretty tame so the carebears won't have to much to cry about.

Yeah, I meant "isn't". Stupid typo.

Also, on the PvP vs PvE thing, it should be made clear (for those who are new to it and just trying to figure it all out) that PvP is a superset of PvE, ie, you can still do everything you can do on a PvE server on a PvP server, plus the added extra PvP stuff.

Its not like on PvP you only kill other people, theres still a huge PvE component to it.

A couple of things you might want to avoid doing. Moving stuff around in your inventory, all crafting, looting, mining and skining.

These things have been proven to catch people in nasty lag spikes. It's aparently been an issues for quite along time according to some of the closed beta testers. It has of course gotten alot worse since the increase load on the servers during OB and now retail.

This is just alittle bit of info I got from guys I know that were in the CB.

Offical update from Blizzard on Latency

With the release of World of Warcraft in North America, Australia, and New
Zealand yesterday, we have already seen an incredible level of demand for
the game. We launched with 41 servers in the U.S. yesterday, and we are
bringing up an additional 34 servers today to accommodate the influx of
players. Over 200,000 accounts were created in just a single day! Based on
this, we can clearly tell that players are very excited about getting into
the game, and as a result, we expect to see high concurrency on the servers
for the first days that the game is available. As the rush to get onto the
servers evens out and additional hardware is made available, the necessity
for waiting queues will decrease.
We have staff working around the clock to ensure we can smooth out this
initial rush, and we will be working through Thanksgiving to address the
latency issues that players are experiencing.

In regard to waiting queues for joining servers, here are some important
tips to keep in mind when deciding which server to play on:

a.. When choosing your server for the first time, the server wizard will
suggest a server with low load to improve your game-play experience.
However, if you decide to pick your own server to play on, we suggest
picking a server where the population is not high during peak hours (peak
hours are 6pm through midnight in your local time zone). This will help you
avoid server queues.

b.. Also, feel free to play in any time zone. The server wizard
automatically chooses a server based on your indicated time zone, but this
is only intended as a suggestion for playing with people in your region, not
a requirement for better latency. Our datacenters are equally capable of
supporting users from any region in North America.
We understand that players want to play with their friends and guild mates,
but during these initial days as we bring up more servers to accommodate the
load, we ask that you please consider the options discussed above. Please
also note that we have determined that the latency issues that have cropped
up are unrelated to individual server populations. For the time being,
latency while fighting and looting monsters can be expected on all servers,
regardless of population. We are continuing to focus on resolving this issue
as quickly as possible.

We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work
diligently to iron out all issues resulting from the overwhelming enthusiasm
for playing World of Warcraft.

its pretty easy to avoid now, just don't loot anything you do not have in your bag or you will lag out for like 5min.. if u got a piece of linin then u can loot more without lagging out etc..

blackrock ran fine for about 1hr before they took it down i was so dissapointed, just waiting for it to come back up now so i can lvl m hunter back up ( got bored of my rogue :\ )

The thing is, in the short term, Blackrock may not be the best place to play but in the long term it is going to be.

If you f*** it off and go start playing on a low population server, it'll be good for now, until you spend all the time getting your character to a high level and realise theres no decent pvp or raid action on your server because its so low population.

Either that, or there is plenty of good raid and pvp action on the server you choose, but its all while you're asleep because the server is mostly populated by yanks.

I'm going to stick it out with Blackrock, because once Blizzard have sorted out these server problems, I still reckon its going to be the best choice. Might play some other things here and there in the meantime, but nothing serious enough to bother mentioning.

Can i use the beta install and just make an account? or do i have to install fully? (i know that ppl have said that it is recommended that you reinstall but i was just wondering if anyone had actually used the beta files and played without any hassles)

Didn't see this posted anywhere yet:

From www.worldofwarcraft.com:

Since its release two and a half days ago, World of Warcraft has already seen incredible concurrency numbers across all active game servers. To keep up with the demand from our players, 47 new servers were made available, increasing the total number of servers to 88.

Doubling our server capacity in such a short period of time created issues in existing servers. We immediately recognized the issues and began implementing fixes. However, some players were unable to log in and enjoy the game during this period.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and are dedicated to providing World of Warcraft players with the best play experience possible. Therefore we'll be adding a small trial-period extension for players who created accounts before or during the downtime. In the days ahead, we'll provide additional details on how the trial-period extension will be determined. As always, we appreciate your continued patience and support; we're still monitoring the servers very closely and making adjustments as needed in order to ensure that World of Warcraft continues to run smoothly for everyone playing.

Man, how much do Blizzard rock. Honestly, what other mmorpg has given you an extension on your free trial period when they f*** up their servers? Instead of trying to pretend nothing was wrong they admitted they f***ed up, gave everyone some free stuff, and now its all good.

Maybe SOE should pay attention, they might actually learn something about customer service.

From the sounds of it though, it wasn't the fact they had heaps of people on there that killed it, it was the fact they brought 30 new servers online and something somewhere down the line couldn't handle that and caved in.

Whats that saying "Even the best plan doesn't survive first contact with the enemy". No matter how well you test and plan theres always at least one unexpected thing which is going to knock you around a bit. I think its impressive that thats the only real launch problem they've had, some other mmorpg launches in the past have been far, far worse.

Just a protip guys:

If you're logging out for the night or whatever, go to an Inn, and just log out (Don't close the window).

Go back to the char selection screen, and minimise the WoW window.

You don't have to wait in line ever again as long as you don't reboot or close the program.

not to mention a lot more fun :)

proudmoore just went down while i was in the middle of a raid.

sadly however, it wasn't actually a raid but a raid group doing a normal set of quests under ogrimmar. I was unaware that raid groups don't get credit for normal quests :( That makes sense from a game design point of view but still disappointing for us.. 9 people doing four quests at once in ragefire would be fairly fair i think.

9 people doing ragefire isn't fair at all. Its an instance, its made for one group, if you want to try and be lame and do it with a raid group then you dont deserve to get the rewards.

funny how you say that taipan, cos I had a number of people see you carry on about how carebear WoW pvp is and describe real pvp as something totally different from WoW. Now you're trying to say that when people said only a minority like the pvp *you described*, they were wrong because the type of pvp you said was carebear, is popular.

Moving may sound like a good idea now ... but in a few months time when you are the only f***er on at 10pm at night, you will know why there was a large push to make un-offical aussie servers.

Unless you like casters, I would recomend playing a melee class. Probably a rogue for sheer damage ability.

As for 'having to play a night elf'; It isn't that hard to get to the night elf lands as any of the alliance races. If you want to play something else it could be doable. Also don't forget that as you go up in levels you will be spending a lot of time all over the place, so don't just base the entire game over what the first 20 levels will be like.

## Edit: As much as the concept of playing the caster classes are appealing ... I prefer melee. Hunters are different though ... I don't know why.

...also, Blackrock server is going to be painful ongoing, simply because of the queue situation, I really wish Blizzard would offer some kind of character transfer service so I could get the f*** off it.

yes it would be nice if blizzard offered a transfer option. Oh well, the community in retail isnt as good as OB was. I liked OB alot more, there were more people that would party/help with quests etc... most of the people now are just gay homos :P

We should make a qgl guild =D that would be awesome

tension that happens to alot of people. There is a simple way of getting around it. As the zeplin starts to move, logout and once you have gone to the char screen wait about 30 seconds and log back in.

my god that "temporary" maintenance time of 10-11pm is a JOKE (8-9pm in perth). Trog to the rescue? Trog do you have any contacts in vivendi that you could talk to about this? It's a joke :(

give us a bloody aussie server :(

even the yanks agree that the aussies need a server, partly because they don't want to share with us and blame us for the lag :D

Why do you think an australian server would suck? If ALL australians were forced to move, perhaps with a character move as well, what would be so bad? Surely there are a couple thousand australian wow players? Wouldnt that be enough? (Im assuming the server limit is like 6K odd. We could fill that surely.

Well if you forced Australians to play there, there would be the same sorts of huge arguments that happened when Blizzard first announced regionalised servers. A lot of Australian players has friends in the US they play with, or they are a part of US guilds, so they wont want to be stuck on an Australian only server. Also, the benefit of playing on a server with US people is there is still a goodly number of people online outside of peak times (outside of our peak times that is).

And if you didn't force people to move, odds are lots of them wouldn't, so the server would be deserted anyway.

wait a few months for the casual players to weed out, wait for all the kids playing on the month free period to run out of time, then see how many subscribers australia still has,

Rogue quests? 95% of the quests are the same for everyone you know. Its only quests you get from your class trainer that are different for each class.

I would be moving on to another game. I won't be forced to play anywhere. What about prior guilds or alliegences?

I have a friend on Nerzhul who claims when he logged back on after the server restart last night he had an extra ~400,000g. Ive seen a screenie, but when nerzhul comes back up i'll get him to confirm it. He says he lost most of it trying to trade it, but still has 29,000.

If you need a hand give me a message, I'm Razorfen (rogue). I'll be in the crossroads later tonight. The people in that area are around level 13 and you have to kill that unique dude Tazan. Its not very hard, as long as someone else doesn't grab him first.

I have found overcrowding in some areas to be a really really annoying problem. The unique monsters have a really long spawn time and when there are 4 groups of 4/5 all camping the one spot it can take ages to actually get the kill. I found its now an artform guessing where he will spawn so you can get the first hit.

It's ridiculous that your character is bound to a server at all. Characters should move freely amongst all servers.

Is the account management page working for anyone? It seems to always be broken for me. Either I can't get to it at all, or I get to the login page and then it dies when I login...

As of now, we will be bringing down the realms daily for regular maintenance. The schedule is as follows:

All Central and Eastern realms will be down from 4:00AM to 5:00AM EST.

All Pacific and Mountain realms will be down from 7:00AM to 8:00AM PST.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Pushed back 3hrs.
Maintenance will now be at 1am

Goody :)
