I need a new psu.

It must be very powerfull and most importantly, that its very quiet.

Cost isn't really a issue (within reason)

Can anyone recommend me one that fits what I'm after?

Also must be available in Aus as I dont want to have to order from OS.

Thanks

Antec Truepower series, up to 550w

I'm about to go get one now for my parents, and I use a 380w myself...

I just read about this 480 watt neopower (I think it was maybe Antec)

Do you know much about it?

Its got a 12cm fan, so im thinking it will be quiet.

Its about $230

I've heard good things about the NeoPower, jubs. Suposedly very quiet, has the "Intelligent" cabling layout, which is cool, and it looks pretty :)

Am very happy with my new Antec Truepower 480 Blue =)

Its heaps quiet, I use it to power a pretty average system, but a heap of fans to help cool the o/c =P

I will no longer recommend Antec.

While they are much better than generics, their build quality is NOT the equal of other brands out there. I know; I own one. The heatsinks are only moderately sized, and the soldering is very average. Neither would I recommend the Thermaltake products for similar reasons.

I would recommend the Globalwin Sapphire power supplies, the Enermax Noisetaker series, and the OCZ Powerstream supplies. I wish we could get the PC Power & Cooling models in Aus, but alas they are not available.

A new brand on the market, and the one I'm going to go for is the Tagan Power supply. I'm just about to go for the 480W model. These are extremely high quality units, but are only ~$135 from www.davidandkarma.com.au or www.eyo.com.au.

The Zalman 400W unit is also very good if that is enough power to satisfy you (not enough for me).

That's my advice, take it or leave it. I stress the absolute hell out of my power supplies, and expect the best. That is what my advice is based upon. A more typical user will probably find a ~400W Antec perfectly capable.

Dilithium Crystals - A rare mineral substance used to channel energy through the matter and anti-matter warp drive engines of the starship USS Enterprise on the sci-fi series STAR TREK/NBC/1966-69 and sequel series. Dilithium was worth 300 times its weight in diamonds and sources of this much-prized element were coveted by other alien races who needed the mineral to power their own space crafts with warp capabilities (travel faster than light). Dilithium crystals were also used to power phasers - futuristic weapons - that could stun or disintegrate their targets. Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) discovered the formula for creating synthetic Dilithium in 2286 in the motion picture Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). During the first few episodes of the original series, the Enterprise engines used Lithium Crystals. TRIVIA NOTE: A silly Star Trek joke floating about goes: "We've secretly replaced the Dilithium crystals with Folger's dark roast crystals. Let's see how long it takes for the Enterprise crew to notice..."
The only power source a good geek should strive for... :)

Thanks for you detailed advice orbitor :)

Yeh 400 watt wouldnt do me. With my water cooling I overclock my cpu a lot and have a lot of other things running off the psu.

I have a thermaltake now and I find it so noisey :(

lol and thanks gumby :)
