if you can see the difference you have superhuman eyes/brain there buddy.
forget it. does it matter? how does it run newer games that require that sort of power? |

Err even if he did have superhuman eyes (which he wouldnt need http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html ) it is highly doubtful his monitor would show more than 150 fps.

Try using ATI's Cat 4.7's
Default drivers are usually out of date. Do you have 8x AGP set to on? |

^^^ Thought as much. That will do it to you every time.
I get 200 odd fps in Q3 running at 1280 x 1024 on a 9800 Pro with 1 Gig PC2100 on a 533 bus (Asus P4G8X-Deluxe) |

I have a problem with my 9800 Pro In the Advanced settings under SMARTGART. AGP Speed is set to OFF when it should be 8x. Every time I try and change it and restart my computer it does nothing. Also when I go START - RUN - SMARTGART the AGP setting for read and write are all set to off :( No matter what I do, I cant switch them on. I dont think I am getting the most out of my leet card :( MOBO is ASUS A7A-266 |

a few questions need to be asked.
did u change from the nvidia card straight to the ati one? no format? did u clean the old nvidia drivers off properly? nvidia drivers leave all sorts of crap that stuff things up. have u got fastwrites on or off? check in bios not windows. 4x or 8x wont make a lick of difference, so dont worry about it. also what is the agp size set to in ur bios? what drivers are u using with it? u can get the latest cats from www.ati.com durrr, but i would recommend the omegas which can be had from http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and the above mentioned info is correct it doesnt matter that u arent getting more then 150fps for visual appreciation, but it does mean that there is something wrong with ur new setup, which should be cleared up if u follow the above questions to there conclusion, also have a look at this if u have any more probs http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=569 |

why do i recomeend them?
they have always been more stable and IQ is superior without loss of performance. u can tweak the cats to do the same but the omegas do it for u, y bother. also the omegas have the built in softmods, which have helped me in the past, but wont really effect u. i would try a few drivers and find the best ones for u. my suggestions are the omega 3.7, and 4.7 series, and the cat 4.4on. but with a 9800xt i would use the omega4.7s. |

the omegas arent always superiour but they are definetely the best alternative to the cats.
funny thing is they are just slightly modified cats. |

If you've come from nvidia to ati then you need to either purge your system of Nvidia stuff hanging around, or reformat.
I'd vote for a reformat. Guaranteed performance increase ;) |

Just use the f***ing catalysts. They give better IQ than Detonators, so stop your whining (read in arnie voice) and get over it.
also... ASUS A7A-266EWWW... isnt that an SIS? edit: ARGHH WORSE! ITS AN ALi CHIPSET!!! THROW IT OUT NOW! last edited by mongie at 16:04:46 30/Jul/04 |

your problem with SIS is?
im currently running a sis655 board with a 2.4B @ 3.1 with dual ddr 1:1 stable, powerful and full of features. y settle for cat image quailty when omegas IQ is better? sounds silly to me |

because Cat FPS is better.
Also, everyone knows ALi is rubbish, and SIS isnt great. The only brands worth considering are Via, Nvidia and Intel. NEXT! |

and the sis655 was one of the first and best alternatives with dual ddr. its an excellent board and isnt intel or via.
and cat fps' are not better, and if they are in some things its by 1-5fps, not worth it for lower IQ |
