Was thinking about starting a career in RE. Been to a few seminars and applied at one place.
I did a phone interview and they seemed really keen on me until I they asked me whether I was willing to work 7 days a week! I said to the chick "Look I'm more than willing to work 6 days a week. I know it will be hard work ...especially atm with a bit of a slump on. But if I work 7 days a week I wouldn't be able to perform this job or any other properly". She said the job wasn't for me. :/ Anyway was wondering if anyone here was a RE veteran. Pro's and Cons of the job?? |

jubs is a property manager for Professionals Toowong and his old man owns the franchise.
you should have said you were willing to work 7 days you moron - they didn't say you would have to, just whether you're willing. |

You don't have to work 7 days a week.
Try someone else they sound like fools (if that was the reason you didn't get the job). Unless you work on the Coast, working on a Sunday is pointless. The only downfall with working in RE is having to put up with ppl like spidz :P Also in RE its hard to make good money. Most people think it will be easy and thats why 90% of people fail. For eg. Raywhite Toowong must have like 10 - 12 sales people. I only ever see like 1 or 2 names ever advertised. So all the rest must be on some s***ty retainor. |

real estate agents are s***, they make a bucketload per house they advertise, and then make money off all these other little hidden fees. when in the end, they are highschool dropouts, with no credentials whatsoever. all they do is talk. they suck, i dont take them seriously. youll get no respect as one.

I got offered a job once where I was expected to be on call 24/7 on top of my regular work hours. I bet they never had a job candidate walk out laughing before. Cheap c***s.... |

Family was looking for houses a few months ago, and I was quite amazed at the extra effort SOME of the RE agents went through to try and get our busines. Then you run into the slackers and you, quite frankly, are put off after you have encountered the harder working ones.
moral: cant be lazy as an RE agent |

being an agent yourself, your response was expected, but hey, its what you do. Take it as an insult or advise, but, from my "worldly experience" every real estate agent my family and freinds have came in contact with has been a complete scumbag. So dont get angry at me when all i have to go by are f***tards. its nothing personal to you, i bet your a nice guy and are good at whatever it is that you do in your job, but id have to say if you were in my position youd agree with me.

I know it will be hard work No, you stated real estate Labouring is hard work Cutting sugar cane by hand is hard work Bricklaying is hardwork Selling real estate is just long hours Same with any non physically active job Maybe stressful at times an highly focused, it will never be "hard work" |

The only downfall with working in RE is having to put up with ppl like spidz :Pwtf, surely me and the mrs are the easiest tenants you have on file. btw the owners of this place recently had the place valued, I'm quite interested in buying - do you know if they intend to sell. ps: the carpets in this place suck and the neighbours who live in a mirror image apartment pay $30 a week less than us, so you're doing better job for your clients than rental hotline ;) For eg. Raywhite Toowong must have like 10 - 12 sales people. I only ever see like 1 or 2 names ever advertised. So all the rest must be on some s***ty retainor.Ray White toowong no longer manage property either, which is a big call being based in Toowong. and you're right I've dealth with them on about 10 properties and only ever met two agents, I wonder wtf all the others do. and speaking from a customers point of view jubs is a decent agent, but I can see your viewpoint lmnt there are plenty of wanker agents out there, I was looking at a property recently and the agent was a complete tosser, I didn't even bother inspecting the place in the end cause he was such a f***wit. |

What a stupid comment Hermitech. In fact, I can't believe I'm replying to your bait it's so stupid so I'll stop right...
I agree there are alot of d*******s in real estate - especially the ones that tell people they'll get X price for their property when they know it's not worth any where near that. Then 2 months later they have to drop the price 30 grand because it won't sell. And yes, I imagine real estate would be a pretty s***ty game to be in. Good money if you can do well, but long hours. last edited by Crunch at 22:59:08 28/Jul/04 |

From personal experience I dont think much of Real Estate agents but at least they're not out pimping and selling drugs, so they perhaps dont deserve the bad stereotype. If you want to see definition of a real 'bottom feeder' try a Business Broker. They will sell you their own grandparents(2-4-1 package deal) for a used phonecard. :P last edited by rolo_tomasi at 08:59:08 29/Jul/04 |

real estate salespeople really have to be flexible in the hours... if you cant do that really you should rethink your career path
i mean most auctions are weekends... |

Not too worried about auctions. Seeing that they are at an all time low.
Auctions are f***in dodgey anyway. I'm not stupid, everyone knows that Saturday and Sunday are 'show day' in the RE industry. I just want one day off midweek. |

Slaps.. I only use that for msn. Dont use it for email. (So add me to your list) or if you want to email use hansjay at professionalstoowong.com.au
Spidz I didn't know they got a valuation. But I will look into it for you. They might be just re financing. They havn't owned it for that long. We have looked after it for many many years and then we sold it to them and then they moved in and then they gave it back to us. I will ask about your carpet and see what we can do. That said it isn't very common to get carpet replaced while tenants are in there. Cause it will be a real pain for you :) Yes we are leet with renting places out :P I have been doing it for longer then anyone I can think of in the whole Western Suburbs. Remember that when you get your investment properties :) lmnt I can understand where you are coming from and no I don't take it personally, as I have had nothing to do with what ever problems you or your family has had. I can give you many different examples about all professions, including RE :) . I find it silly that many people give mass generalisations about many different industries, when in most cases it is a minority that is doing things wrong (I guess thats just life). HERMITech I think it depends on what you consider is hard work. Some people find manual labour very hard others find the stress of the corporate world also extremely painfull. |

Cool :)
280k for a dogbox in woop woop still sounds like a lot. Maybe your woop woop is closer than what I think it is. |
