I know this board has members of fine musical taste so I am sure at least some of you are beatles fans. What's your favourite beatles song?

My favourite song is Come Together, and favourite album is Abbey Road.

LOL! Hope you were joking:p "Beatles" songs!

White Album was the first I ever really listened to and I love most of the songs off it. But, the rock on Let It Be album is awesome, like "Don't Let Me Down". I'd have to say any of Let It Be, White Album ot Abbey Road would be my favourite on a given day... but every other album comes pretty close!

another favorite would be that one with rolf harris and the beatles.. forgot what its called 'tie me kangaroo down boys, tie me kangaroo down..'

'cut your hair once a year boys, cut your hair once a year, if it covers your ears you cant hear boys, so cut your hair once a year'

The song that first got me listening to the beatles (in grade 8) was Love Me Do

Too many good songs to choose from.

It's like deciding if Billy Joel is better than Elton John.

I reckon if the Beatles didn't lose all their rights to most of their music it would be free to download by now. Too bad for most, but fortunately I have all their CD's:D Vinyl for the win though.

Sorta sucks how all their cds are still full-price...fkn Sanity was selling them all for $32 the other. Bah.

On a more positive note, I picked up a few early REM albums for $10 each the other day. Murmur is such an ace album.

The first REM album I bought was Out of Time. Absolute s*** cept for Losing My Religion IMO.

Yeah Out Of Time isn't that good (Tho I much prefer Country Feedback to Losing My Religion. Shiny Happy People is the only other song on there I really like).

Automatic For The People and New Adventures In Hi-Fi are their two best albums imo. Nearly perfect all the way through I reckon.

Would original Beatles vinyls be worth much these days or are they fairly common?

I have originals of both Abbey Road and White, not in great condition though.

You could prolly get a little bit for them, depends on the condition.

I think it depends on which ones they are and in what condition and where they were sold. If you have good condition rare release s*** that is signed it would be worth quite a bit.

Im sure I read somewhere that it actually is only Eric Clapton doing lead on While my Guitar Gently Weeps. Apparently Harrison couldnt cut it. Check Claptons super-thick Les Paul tone and wide vibrato on it. No way Harrison could pull off lead like that. Even John Lennon pulled a better lead than Harrison. (not pickin on dead guys but hes way over-rated)

'Any' Beatles song.

Interestingly I saw a Parkinson interview with Paul McCartney the other day where he said he never really considered that he wrote 'Yesterday' as he in fact dreamt it, in it entirity one night, got up the next morning and played it. He went on to say that in hidnsight it may have been caused by the death of his mother and that his subconscious in fact wrote it.

'Why she had to go I dont know she wouldn't say'

I guess its true, genius does just sometimes happen.

Lennon was brilliant & George Harrison was an awesome song writer as well.

I wonder how many of these so called s*** hot bands and performers of today will still have their music played and revered in 40 years.

Very common, like stick said, it would have to be a rare release to be worth anything at all as they were the most popular band in the world for their time and many people bought their records. Wait 50 more years though and it might be a different situation.

bootleg vinyl of their days at the 'vault' or underground (whatever it was called) in Liverpool might be worth a few $$

p.s. many years ago I went to the spot in NY where Lennon was shot, people were still putting flowers there everday, apparently still do.

i saw (have on video) a full on documentary/movie about john lennon (called "imagine - john lennon")

its pretty cool, talks about when the band started, to his first devorce, kids, and even has a part in it where this guy sleeps in their gardens outside for afew days, and then they invite him in for breakfast, and johns like 'why are you sleeping in our garden man?'
guy: 'YOUR FAMOUS'
john: 'now youve met me, im just a normal guy!, want to have something to eat?'

and they have a chat then he leaves :D

edit: the movie goes all the way to his funeral

Ticket to Ride. The only classic video recording of them performing this song is in the episode "The Chase" in Dcotor Who.

A guy I work with is from Liverpool, and last night he just sorta said in passing something about knowing the Beatles which I ignored as BS (this guy is in his 60's and talks exactly like Ringo Starr). But then this other guy I work with was like, "Wait a second, what do you mean you knew the Beatles?"

The old fella went on to say that they all lived really close together, and the kids that everyone looked up to included the Beatles, and he said he knew George and Ringo well enough for him to say hello to them, and they would say, "Hello Dennis" back. I was impressed.
