Basically I can't hold a net conection for very long
I am pretty sure its my nic - it has like 50 kabillion packets etc... this is a pic from like 8mins of my pc being connected. rekon this would be the reason for the net dropping out intermittenly (s/p) http://www.heardy.com/new/nic.JPG XP didn't pick the card up natively, so i used drivers from the cd, and their site has OLDER drivers then whats on cd, stupid nethear :/ |

i've got plenty of nics here.... its just that one is gig :p
i am using a 3com standard pci one at the moment and it seems stable. So i think its a driver issue, adn there is no new ones :/ |

I had a problem like this when I used WinXP drivers for my SiS onboard. It was the manufacturer's drivers that fixed it for me however, yours seems to be the opposite.
What brand is your card? Edit: aces, beaten. last edited by exo at 00:12:17 26/Feb/04 |

Format your HDD, then wash it in mild soapy water.

you run a firewall? perhaps there is some kind of ACK or ICMP loop happening with the GigE card and it might pick it up.
at minimum packet size thats almost 800mb of data you got going there, so it sounds like ur card is 'dos'ing its self. turn off any QoS or SNMP on your machine and the switch if its managed and see how you go. |

probably the interface connecting the chair to the keyboard. (hehe)
Replace the nic if it continues then the netgear needs to reset to defaults and start again, if persists the switch/router will probably be the problem, broadcasting continiously. |

It seams the basic netgear nics are utter s***, I have one FA-330 that blue screens my windows 2000 machine hourly, I un-plugged the network cable and connected it to the onboard Intel connection, the computer has now been up a whole week.
also, jesus f*** thats alot of packets, my computer hasn't even passed 20 million and it's been online a week and uploaded a few gig. I just hope this other gigabit card doesnt crap out on me, last time I ever buy netgear. last edited by scuzzy at 12:46:44 28/Feb/04 |
