Following up on this story from a while back when one of the first Razor 1911 pirates was sentenced comes this story about the leader of the former piracy ring going down as well: Sean Michael Breen, 38, was ordered by U.S. District Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong in Oakland to begin serving a 50-month prison sentence March 26 on charges of copyright infringement. |

Damn. Looks like the warez scene is dead now.
The 50 month jail thingy would suck though. So remember kids, don't download unauthorized copies of software. |

Armstrong also ordered Breen to pay restitution of more than $690,000 to Cisco Systems in a separate scheme in which he posed as an online customer of the San Jose networking giant to order hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of hardware. clown |

Heh, hackers aren't master criminals, they just exploit computers and people. Some get in over their heads and get caught, others stay off the radar completely. I'm still debating which is the bigger problem out of the two.
As for the warez scene, thats still alive and strong all over the world. It will be many a year before that even gets close to slowing down. |

I wonder how many people owe their careers to the software these groups provided when they would not have normally been able to afford the licensing fees necessary to develop the skills they now use in a commercial environment. I know a great many people who couldn't afford the software while learning the software, yet have purchased it once working.
While they break the law an have to deal with the consequences, I wonder how much revenue could be generated if all the people who used this software to obtain ongoing and legitimate emloyment, donated a $ to assist in paying his fines. The dude still has to do the time regardless, so I don't think that its all that bad an idea personally |

therefore its not much for each of us to donate 1$. Yeah, that sounds like an awesome idea, lets show out support for those who flagrantly flout the laws and blatantly break them. Cos you know, that really fosters the idea of gamers/computer users being responsible adults. |

If you helped pay for his 'fees' you'd probably end up getting charged for 'financially supporting a warez group' hahahaha
wouldn't that be a slap in the face... trying to help someone else out and getting charged for it (I'm sure they'd find a way) |

If you are helping him commit a crime then its aiding and abetting or some such .. if you are paying for his defence I think the term they use is moron.

Oh you are just so self righteous, Khel. So not donating money to get some retard who broke the law out of jail makes me self righteous? Wow, tough crowd. |

I'm not pretending I am the law, I'm just saying, why in the hell should we be rewarding idiots for breaking the law? Doesn't that seem just a little bit broken and wrong?

Heh, I had to read this again because I thought mine eyes deceived me. You'd actually pay money to help the defence of a CONVICTED CRIMINAL who distributed stolen software and scammed a big company?

People defend convicted criminals all the time, thousands of fools pumped money into the defence of Pauline Hanson. It's the nature of the legal system that people have a right to appeal. Surely you know that microsoft has several times over appealed the anti-competition findings against it??

Funny, I thought she wasn't a criminal.
I don't see what the Microsoft thing has to do with anything (I'm on their side anyway, those anti-competitive crybabies piss me off - write your own damn operating system and then do whatever you want with it). |

Ehhh, maybe you don't understand, she WAS a CONVICTED CRIMINAL, then it was over turned on appeal. The same way if this ruling is overturned this guy will no longer be a CONVICTED CRIMINAL.
Maybe you should read more into the anti-competition arguement and see why the US government persued it in the first place. It's hard for someone to write a competitive OS when a much larger company mounts huge campaigns to purchase your tech before you have a chance to market it. The argument is that MS doesn't allow any competition to gain a place. And you can say thats fair enough, however competition encourages better quality products and cheaper prices, so it's not fair enough. |

4 month bump for this?
I don't know what the big deal is against this guy. "HE BROKE THE LAW OH EM GEE." So what? If it weren't for him a lot of my computer knowledge would be nonexistant, along with many other peoples'. It's groups like this that make the extraordinary available to the ordinary, and I applaud them for that. Hats off to DEViANCE, Myth, and Razor. If I could, I'd help the guy out with every last penny I had.http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5690/rolleyesbarf3.gif |
