I get like 150+ in my hotmail a day. What's even more annoying is when it features my real name, which I only give out to places I thought I could trust.

Spam went down a bit when they busted that guy a few weeks back.

It's up again now.

I don't think I've ever put my real name on any internet site that asks for it (except maybe here or something). The ones I have put it on but can't remember, it's usually just my first name, which is so common it isn't funny so it doesn't really bother me :)

I'm about 30-40 a day on my optus account, rather annoying. Most filter out with simple rules but they're getting harder to sort out. My work email has been harvested too (off our website presumably) but i only get like 1 a week on that.

Spamming is definately on the increase, and I would believe Bigpond's excuses about it causing their mail servers to behave the way they are now. Sure they should have had the capacity to deal with it, but obviously they didn't.

On my mail server with about 15,000 mailboxes for the month of April 4,037,657 emails were received of which :
- 1,178,305 Bounced
- 201,597 Rejected
- 107,404 Spamassassin
- 23,445 Virus

For the month of October of this year, those figures were 8,363,391 total incoming
- 2,293,646 Bounced
- 41,363 Rejected
- 131,101 Spamassassin
- 60,268 Virus

Bounced : approx 90% of these are SPAM sent from a dictionary style spam attack, or spam to accounts that no longer exist.
Rejected: Match rules in the message headers that detect obvious spam
Spamassassin: Received a score of over 5.0 from SpamAssassin, not all customers have spamassassin enabled on their mailbox.
Virus: Detected and removed infected attachment by Virus Scanner

That's correct, in 6 months, incoming mail has doubled, and the number of emails bounced have doubled. I shudder to think
about how many emails bigpond must be processing as a result. Also of note viruses have almost tripled!

In conclusion ... Spam has increased at an incredible rate.

No way, I read on Whirlpool that this so-called increase in spam was just an excuse by Telstra for mail being backlogged - I don't believe your so-called 'statistics'
