More Gamespot pimpage here, but it's the first review I've seen for Call of Duty - appears they liked it too - giving it 9.0/10 & awarding it their Editors Choice award...
There is no shortage of World War II-themed first-person shooters available, and it's no secret that a number of them, including Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Battlefield 1942, are extremely good. Now you can add Call of Duty to that list. The first game by Infinity Ward, a studio composed of some of the same team that worked on Allied Assault, Call of Duty presents outstanding action all around and is at least as good as, and in several ways is simply better than, any similar game. Though both its single-player and multiplayer modes will be familiar to those who've been keeping up with the WWII-themed shooters of the past several years, most anyone who plays games would more than likely be very impressed with Call of Duty's authentic presentation, well designed and often very intense single-player missions, and fast-paced, entertaining multiplayer modes.
Check out the review here. promoted/edited forum item

Hmm, I normally stay away from games like this simply because they offer no real advances in gameplay but the review reads like it might be worth checking out. Even if only for the multiplayer part for LANs.

Yeah I enjoyed MOHAA but like i said in another thread, its multiplay was absolute crap. The storyline got a bit iffy sometimes but it was okay for its time. Lost a lot of respect for the QIII engine for realism mods for me anyway after seeing MOHAA MP...

So far i have absolutely loved both CoD demos, it does indeed have a really authentic feel, and it looks f***ing awesome to boot! /me crosses fingers multiplay lives up to the same standards. Looks as if its going to follow the real scenarios of WWII which is exactly what I would be looking for in a WWII FPS singleplayer.

IMO the weapon system is very cool with the iron sights etc, I hope they give the option like vietcong to have the multiplay servers set on hard and have no x-hair, that would be just perfect.

Runs pretty well on my system, only a 4200 but its coping pretty well, gets a bit chuggy when particle smoke is spewing out of stuff, but the game itself looks sexy :)

I'm also hanging out for this game its totally restored my faith in the QIII engine :)
I also hope they release a multiplay demo so we can check that aspect out, could very well be the next DoD!

I played the call of duty dawnville demo and its very good. Very nice war effects and the graphics are very good.

I was playing everything maxed on my 9600 pro and its was running smooth, you should try the demo.

I didn't realise it was the Q3 engine. That could explain why I liked the second demo.

I want a multiplayer demo aswell!

It had better have good multiplayer, otherwise I don't think I'll bother getting it as a game like this desserves some good online slawage.

It is definately the Quake3 engine (or realistically the RTCW engine at this point), but just about everything in it was rewritten except for the menu system.

yeah
Call of Duty's graphics, somewhere down the line, are powered by the Quake III engine, but the game looks great--not dated.

I found it!
IMO looks bloody impressive, I also love the close hit of a mortar/tank shell, your vision is all blurred and you are almost deafened and can barely move, that is truely awesome!

Love the demos too, I just hope the full version isn't as short as what others had predicted.

But I do have a feeling that the single player campaign will be finished fairly quickly.

i dont like how people fall over after you shoot them then stand up and start shooting you later

and how enemies just seem to keep pouring out, it starts to feel a bit like the total random respawning found in soldier of fortune. not good :\

Why would you spend hundreds of thousands of $s on an engine, just to completely replace it with your own stuff - 'except for the menu system' - That's bulls***.

I thought Medal of Honour was the most overrated FPS ever.

It was a cookie cutter FPS, but set in WW2.

It had a couple of cool scenes, but they were ruined by the unimaginative way in which the game was made.

The omaha beach landing was awesome, but ran like that "arguing on the internet" retard.

Every other level was boring. Very formulaic. Run around an artificially extended map (you are forced to zigzag due to stupid obstacles), getting shot in the back by germans which appear out of no-where (or burst out of WARDROBES - yeah, ok, whatever), really dumb AI, and f***ing doors that shut themselves!?#$%# (My number 1 pet hate.)

So in my opinion a potentially awesome game ruined by a lack of imagination. I mean seriously, without the Germans and old-school weapons, would it have gotten the rave reviews it got?

No.

but they don't just keep pouring out, they stop sooner or later.
your teammates on the other hand..... they do :)

there is a spot where they will keep spawning, after the tank busts through the wall guys come out after it, and you have to go back to the church to get another panzerfaust, when u run back thru the the building the tank shoots apart and get behind the tank (it cant shoot u there) guys keep rolling over that wall, they just keep coming as long as you keep a bit of a distance, if you go up to the wall the stop spawning, if u go away again they'll start, once u kill the tank they will stop permanently...

a bit short and easy on greenhorn.

Try playing on veteran then! Its quite hard in some spots.

ps: yes im addicted to the demos :)
pps: yes i know thats sad :D
