i have a terrible sinking feeling im never going to see the contents of my 40gb storage drive again...

i formatted my windows drive today and installed windows xp w/ sp1, thinking i'd simply be able to change the security properties to my drive when i had windows up and running again.

sadly, this isnt the case.

i have no security tab for drives or folder properties and i have lost ALL access to my storage drive containing all my work.

is there any way at all to get this security tab to show itself so i can get my drive rights back, or do i have to format back to windows 2000 in order to comandeer it.

HELP PLEASE!

thanks.

Dose the drive appear in windows ? If so whats the error or message you get when selecting the drive? Use the disk manager to checkout the disk's status?

it says the disks format is "RAW", wait a tic and i'll upload an image.

Maybe you set your storage drive up as a dynamic volume on your last o/s ? Not sure if you can convert it to a dynamic disk again in disk manager, or if doing so will destroy it.. you need to enable remote desktop and let me take a look :D

i think my best option right now is to take the drive out and stick it in my win2k machine and attempt to take control of the contents.

but if any of you other qgl'ers can shed some light on my problem here, please do so.

hey lits!!! i had EXACTLY the same problem believe it or not!

there was a solution - but it was in the hard drives coresomethingorother . i used a program to open up the internals of the harddrive core and i had to change 4 digits from something like x105 to x106 because x105 is like a wrong configuration or some s***. i will try and see if i can find the program for u.......but DONT panic, you havent lost ANY data AT all its just disguised - and dont try and format i think i heard that f***s with it good when u have this problem (this wsa bout 4 months ago)

believe me, formatting is the very last thing i'd be doing. theres too much data on there i need.

i reckon its this f***ing service pack 1. i never had this problem with base winxp or win2k.

hmm, my drives say they're RAW and unformatted and stuff, I just use disk manager to import them and it works.

this was all a case of simple file sharing being enabled and me not knowing how to turn it off.

i've fixed it now and am running xp pro w/ sp1 again.

thanks for your help all.
