Iv'e just reinstalled XP Pro and sp1 after buying a Sapphire 9800 Pro 256mb card. Device mnger shows everything is installed except disabled gigabit ethernet.Iv'e put UT2003,Unreal2,Morrowind on the drive.I've turned the settings up fairly high to play these games, but during play, a sound (same as default dingdong when plugging a usb device in)plays.Anyone have same sort of experience?. System specs: P42.7,P4G8X,Radeon 9800 256mb,Audigy 2,Sony cpdg520 monitor.

Gigabyte radeon 9700 ay,two different shops I went to had a few of them returned with crappy overheating fan heatsinks on them. One ok, two or more is usually more than a coincidence. "he he.." was it ?Anyway when newer games start coming out that place higher demands on ram my Sapphire will be leaving your card behind.Anyway champ what the____' s that got to do with my question?

LOL!! Gigabyte does not make faulty cards.....they are a highly respected manufacturer tool, hehe.
The faulty heatsinks clearly put the seller at fault (bad handling etc). Also...do you know what you are talking about?? There is minimal difference technology wise between the 9700 pro and 9800....mostly speed which i can more than make up with overclocking....And no games will no specifically place 'higher' demand on the RAM of the card HAHA....Your card will always be on par with mine.....Gigabyte = Quality (PCPP award too), Sapphire willl be left in the dust everytime 'champ'.........

They might overclock better, doesn't mean they always perform better...

Hey www.dickball.cock .uk,I remember you stood out as being such a dickwad at answering normal forum questions in your attention seeking little girlish ways.So i decided to send you one final message, read sept PC Authority on their graphic card tests.Dammed if i didnt see Sapphire at or near the top of most of the tests,"stock standard". Baaaaaah!.

The problem you are decribing sounds like Windows.. Yep.. Definately is Windows.. hehe.. I would suggest formatting and installing DOS.

If you can't be bothered doing that, you could just go settings>control panel>sounds and audio devices, hit the sounds tab, find 'device connect' and change the sound to 'none'. That'll stop the sound coming on during gaming, but also whenever you connect a device...small price to pay if it's annoying you that much.

w, PC Authority is a s*** magazine for uneducated morons like yourself, Sapphire may perform better in 'tests', but i know for sure when it comes to quality, non-laggy gameplay, you pay for what you get and u pay more for gigabyte so you get more from gigabyte. (If your a cheapo like urself u will get cheap performance). You clearly don't get uniterrupted perfection like gigabyte delivers, you get what a cheap brand delivers for cheapp people like urself.......

While I do acknowledge that there's not a lot of difference performance wise between the 9700 and 9800 Pro cards at the moment, once games arrive that require the extra instructions that only the 9800 can do, differences will be seen.

As for frame rates, both cards go way above what the human eye can notice (60fps) so why not crank up the detail and get the best possible picture and stop quibbling. Who cares if you get 100fps? I'd rather get 60 or 70 fps at a higher resolution or with anisotropic filtering on.

Ill_Handle#3 your comment on old games was quite ignorant of the fact that if it wasn't for them, there'd be no quality new games. How man new games take ideas from old games? Aside from graphics and a different story there is no difference between Quake 1 and the upcoming Half-Life 2 and Doom 3.

Also your comment in the 2D battleship post were way out of left field. If the admins here were doing their job properly your comments would have been deleted and your account removed. Where does "poor, uneducated and lacking a steady income" fit into someone wanting to download the 2D game of battleship? Save your insulting and degrading comments for people who care, because they're certainly not welcome here.

Totally forgot I was supposed to be giving advice as to what that sound might be. If I were you I would install the generic ATI drivers instead of those supplied by the manufacturer of your chipset. Make sure that if you do install the generic drivers that the other ones are completely removed first.

By the way Ill_Handle#3 you are most likely talking to teenagers who have absolutely no right to being "educated, rich and having a steady income". They have a right to being a teenager, enjoying themselves and learning about what life is, something I don't think you quite know yet.

Thanks everyone who supplied any positive info on Q.I think I've tracked it back to Wingman GP steering wheel plugged into one of the 4 USB ports on side of Sony 21" monitor, which rely on a single extension cable leading back to a single USB on m/board.A conflict of some sort.
p.s Piss off dickhandler 3#!.

Yes actually you do......Your a plain moron and you can't communicate effectively on any level basis.....You don't deserve any oxygen or carbon based compounds.....your life consists of the most uninspiring events that simply become your routine in creating some super computer which you shall never be able to afford......The only warning sounds you get are the ones signalling you to a lonely death......Go install another computer part, that ought to satisfy your horribly detached life from society.......

Nukleuz, shut ur philosphical wanna b style of communication, its not relevent, nor wanted here. Go back to your failed attempts at trying to appeal to the mature sectors of society.....Your either a failed parent or used to failure in general, you can't influence people as easily as u think.....In other words, go counsel some young children who probably have the same intellect as yourself, or go write a book on 'why i can't influence people if i am a failure'
, otherwise shutup or be silenced.....

WARNING
ON TOPIC POST

I had a similar problem where I would hear the "ding" sound while playing CS online. It turned out some Microsoft E-Mail programme in the system tray was notifying me of a new message in my hotmail account.
I disabled the programme and the problem went away, but it was bugging me for ages cos I thought it was something in the game.

Ahaaha! this is funny, Ill_Handle criticising OTHER people on their bad english and grammar. You do know a comma "," is more commonplace than "..." Actually, it is infact the CORRECT way.

Why don't YOU give him YOUR details since you want to finish it more quickly?

Ill_Handler#3. That's fine, I'll give up my philosophical talk, but how about I start talking the way you do.

yo man you talkin about a stupid f*cking "ding" sound on your mofo hardware which is cheesy n cheap compared to my super educated 9700 pro which blows you off the heezy.
yes but we're just here to help the guy with the reason behind the frustrating noise
f*ck the uneducated noise man, he's only using his cheap card to play piss poor 80's games cause his card is so cheaply made. He's so uneducated he can't get his head around the whole "new game theory". I went to uni to understand all that s*** mofo.
yes well my Ti4600 understands the whole new game theory as well the "old school game" theory, but we're still helping this guy sort out his problem.
a Ti4600...? Man you livin in da past. Fo shizzle my nizzle you and your card so uneducated that you must be playin doom!
you must have had a very "uneducated" head injury as a child.

Handler, I really couldn't give two s***s when it comes to your own personal opinion. Someone could liken what you have to say to "anally retentive bad breath". While I'm at it, I don't even care what hardware you have. Come Doom III time your "archaic" video card is going to separate itself from the rest of the pack when it falls behind in frame rates due to the fact it is not directx 9.1 compliant whereas the Radeon 9800 Pro with it's improved instruction set and optimized memory core plus directx 9.1+ compliance leave your "old skool" 9700 Pro in the dust. I have enjoyed watching you constantly make a dick of yourself with your dumbarse comments which have also demonstrated a serious lack of knowledge when it comes to computing and life (well, you don't have a life now do you). By the way, if you want to pick a fight with me online, go for it (I'm coming over to Melbourne in December so I'll give you a reason to sing "All I want for Xmas is my two front teeth")! Not only will I print out your stupid post challenging me but I'll hang it up in my office so that whenever work starts to annoy me I'll look up and have you to laugh at. I might even print myself a second copy just to wipe my arse with.

Errr, try no nukleuz you super geek, you have the time write up an essay for a public forum, you clearly failed in life.....Wow you have an office??? What pulling in $20,000 a year????
Give me your phone number or address or anything.....Then we will see who has the friends or the 'connections' i might add......
Don't come on here thinking your a huge, chances are you'll get gang bashed or worse.
Once again your pointless essays have no effect on me and i simply skim through them gracefully without one change in frame of mind......I'll say it once more, when you come down in December, email me on metalman1023@hotmail.com and we'll see what i can make of you.........

You are 14 or 15 right? Seeing as you made that post at 11:40pm on a Friday night. Anyone aged 18 and above is not home at that time of night, they are out enjoying the night life. Seeing as you live in Melbourne you have no excuse to be home on a Friday night.

Now you've made yourself out to be a big tough guy, but you are going to get your friends or your 'connections' (I'm sensing some backdoor shenanigans going on here) to do the job? There's a description that all Australians would use to describe you: PUSSY

Anyway, yes I'm coming to Melbourne in December, no I'm not going to waste my time e-mailing you or sending you my phone number or address. I've got one week there and I'm not going to waste one minute of my time looking for you let alone thinking about you. I'll be too busy enjoying myself visiting family and friends, going out, shopping etc..

Until then, keep writing on the forums here. With every dimwitted comment I get another reason to smile and laugh at you, not with you. Just like all the other people in this post (It's not like I'm the only one who thinks you are a d*******. Coincidence?).

Have a nice week end.
